Van Persie Extends Contract

Robin van Persie will play another year with Feyenoord after extending his contract there for another season. A Feyenoord statement read: "Robin van Persie has agreed to add one more season to his playing career at De Kuip. The club recently made it known through technical director Martin van Geel, head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst and others that Feyenoord wanted to keep hold of the striker. The 34-year-old has now said that he would like to play for one more season."

 

Hughton Gets New Deal

Also signing a new deal is Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton, who is now contracted to the Seagulls until 2021. Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said: "Chris's diligent approach is respected across football. He thoroughly deserves his new contract. Our debut Premier League season has been a brilliant experience for the club, with some iconic moments, including an unforgettable night at the Amex against Manchester United to secure our Premier League status earlier this month."

 

Sweden Name Squad Without Zlatan

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been left out of Sweden's 23 man squad for the summer's World Cup.

Marquez Could Make It Five

Veteran Mexican defender/midfielder Rafael Marquez could be set to appear in his fifth World Cup after being included in Mexico's preliminary squad. The 39 year old would be only the third person to do so, after Lothar Matthaus and Antonio Carbajal, if he makes the final 23. He is already the first player to captain a team to four World Cups.

Hazard In Buy Good Players Or Else Warning To Chelsea

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard has challenged the club to match his ambitions with good signings if they want him to extend his deal with the club. Hazard was asked what would convince him to sign a new Chelsea contract and replied: "I'm waiting for new players next season. I want good players because I want to win the Premier League next season. We're Chelsea. we need trophies at the end of the season. At the moment we have nothing. We have not qualified for the Champions League. So the season has been bad. If we can't be in the Champions League we need the trophy. It's up to us to save the season with the FA Cup. I've never won the FA Cup. I hope this year is for me and for Chelsea. We will give everything."

 

Sporting Condemn Attacks

Sporting Clube de Portugal were at the centre of a storm yesterday after reports in a Portugese newspaper claimed that a group of fans attacked players and trashed their training ground, following the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League. Sporting seemingly confirmed that it did happen after posting a club statement that read: "Sporting is not this, Sporting can not be this. We will make every effort to establish full responsibility for what has happened and we will demand the punishment of those who acted in this absolutely pitiful way." The statement also "vehemently condemned acts of vandalism and aggression to athletes".

 

Gotze Misses Out

The man who scored the goal to win Germany the 2014 World Cup, Mario Gotze, has been left out of the squad for this year's tournament. Despite being out with injury, Manuel Neuer has made the provisional squad.

Guardiola Gets Award

The League Managers Association (LMA) manager of the year award has been won by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard has led City to a League and League Cup double, also seeing his side score a record 100 points and score another record with 106 goals.

 

Released Players

Rochdale have announced that manager Keith Hill has decided to release five players from their current squad. Reece Brown, Niall Canavan, Steve Davies, Keith Keane and Mark Kitching will all be searching for new clubs.

Nottingham Forest have also announced their retained list and they have chosen to release January signing Ashkan Dejagah, veteran midfielder David Vaughan and oft-injured defender Jack Hobbs. They also lost long-serving Chris Cohen, who retired.

 

Belfodil Joins Hoffenheim

Standard Liege striker Ishak Belfodil will be playing in the Bundesliga again next season after agreeing to join Hoffenheim for next season. The 26 year old forward has agreed a deal which runs until 2022.
