Transfers

Defender Jake Caprice has stepped up from National League side Leyton Orient to join League Two's Tranmere Rovers.

Northern Ireland international defender Tom Flanagan has moved on a free transfer to join Sunderland. The 26 year old did have a year left on his contract but allowed him to move on a free with a sell-on clause.

Cardiff City have spent just over £10m to buy forward Bobby Reid from Bristol City. The 25 year old was in the EFL Championship team of the year last season with 19 goals. Cardiff also completed the signing of QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies for £3.5m.

Wayne Rooney has finally made his move to the USA and Major League Soccer after signing a 3 and a half year deal with MLS team DC United. DC United will pay Everton a compensation package for the 32 year old and will make him the highest paid player in their history.

Middlesbrough keeper Joe Fryer has joined Carlisle United on a season-long loan. Leaving Carlisle is forward Reggie Lambe, the Bermudan international has signed for Cambridge United.

Brian Galach has joined Crawley Town on a 3 year deal, with a year's option. The 17 year old was playing for Aldershot Town last season. Winger Jordan Roberts has left Crawley to sign a 2 year deal with Ipswich Twon.

Port Vale have completed the double signing of Peterborough United forward Idris Kanu and Gateshead defender Theo Vassell. Teenage forward Kanu has arrived on loan for the season, while Vassell has signed a one-year deal.

Tony McMahon has joined Oxford United after being released by Bradford City.

Forest Green Rovers have made their 8th and 9th signings of the summer by adding Liam Shepherd and Isaac Pearce. Defender Shephard has moved from Peterborough United on an undisclosed fee, while teenage forward Pearce was released by Fulham.

Norwich City's defender Marcel Franke has joined SV Darmstadt on loan for the season, with an option to buy.

Ipswich Town have sold defender Adam Webster for an undisclosed fee to Bristol City.

Veteran defender Gary Warren has moved to Yeovil Town, following the player agreeing a release from Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Birmingham City defender Cheick Keita has signed on loan for KAS Eupen in Belgium.

FC Schalke 04 have spent £9m to buy midfielder Omar Mascarell from Real Madrid. Madrid had only just paid a £3.6m fee to make the players loan move from Eintracht Frankfurt permanent before immediately selling him on to Schalke.

Valencia have snapped up young centre half Mouctar Diakhaby from Lyon. The French side have received a fee of £13.5m for the 21 year old. The French side have re-invested some of the fee in the £9m signing of striker Jean-Philippe Mateta from 1.FSV Mainz 05.

Congolese forward Firmin Mubele has swapped Rennes for Toulouse in a £4.5m move.

Serie A side SPAL have signed young Italian full-back Lorenzo Dickmann on loan from Serie C side Novara.

Frosinone have continued their strengthening ahead of the Serie A season following their promotion via the play-offs with the £270,000 signing of experienced striker Nicola Citro from Trapani.

Former Celtic left back Emilio Izaguirre has been released by Al-Feiha of the Saudi Professional League.

Sunderland have finally managed to offload waster Jack Rodwell and his obscene wages. The freeloader will now be on the lookout for a new club to fleece.

Boca Juniors have paid £2.7m for winger Sebastian Villa from Colombian side Deporte Tolima.

Tottenham Hotspur have lost young talent Noni Madueke. The 16 year old has turned down a contract offer from Spurs to move to PSV Eindhoven.

 

Cathro Teams Up With Nuno Again

Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Ian Cathro as first team coach, resurrecting a partnership with Nuno Espirito Santo that ran between 2012 and 2015. Cathro assisted Nuno at Rio Ave and Valencia before leaving for family reasons. Since then, Cathro has worked as Hearts manager. The pair originally met on a coaching course hosted by the SFA back in 2009.

 

R.I.P. Goran Bunjevcevic

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Red Star Belgrade defender Goran Bunjevcevic has died at the age of just 45. The then-Yugoslavia international was brought to English football by Glenn Hoddle, in his time managing Spurs. He was working as sporting director of the Serbian FA, a role he began in August 2016. He had suffered an aneurysm on 20th May and never recovered.

 

Edouard Gets Suspended Sentence

Celtic's club record signing Odsonne Edouard has received a 4 month suspended prison sentence after being involved in an incident in France. The 20 year old was on loan at Toulouse in Fenruary 2017 when a 58 year old was shot in the ear with an air rifle. Then Toulouse youth player Mathieu Cafaro initially confessed to firing the gun from a car, which then drove off, with Edouard driving. Edouard has a 6,000 euro fine and 2,600 euros in damages to the victim, who suffers from hearing problems since the incident, to pay. He has also been banned from carrying weapons for 5 years. Cafaro was sacked by Toulouse and has since signed for Stade de Reims.
