Review of the Day

Transfers

Shrewsbury Town have made a double signing as they look to go one better next season, following their failure to win promotion last season. Chelsea midfielder Charlie Colkett has joined on a season-long loan, the 21 year old spent last season in the Netherlands with Vitesse Arnhem. Doug Loft, also a midfielder, has arrived on a free transfer after being released by Colchester United.

Another player left Chelsea, this time on a permanent deal for £3.6m, as Jeremie Boga moved to Serie A side Sassuolo.

McClean Has Stoke Medical

Stoke City are looking to bolster their ranks for a quick return to the Premier League by signing a below average winger in James McClean. After the Republic of Ireland winger refused to go on a preseason training camp with current club West Bromwich Albion, the Baggies became keen to offloan the wantaway player. A fee has been agreed between the two clubs and he has undergone his medical, ahead of a move to Stoke, expected to be completed today.

Benzema Denies Milan Links Calling Di Marzio A Liar

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema is showing just why Didier Deschamps has no hesitation in leaving him out of the French squad. Following a bust up with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who described the 30 year old striker as an 'old man', Benzema has now got into an online argument with Sly Sports' Gianluca Di Marzio. While De Laurentiis was labeled a 'nutter', Di Marzio has been called a liar by the French forward. Di Marzio made a claim that the striker's representatives, along with another intermediary, called Ludovic Fattizzo, had met with AC Milan, who were keen on signing him. Benzema's agent, Karim Djaziri, denied the story on social media, posting a number of laughing emojis in reply to the story. Benzema also posted on social media, telling Di Marzio he needed to change job and was a liar. Di Marzio refused to back down, however, now adding to his claims by adding in a twist, suggesting Benzema was set to dump Djaziri and that Benzema had spoken directly to Milan's manager, Gennaro Gattuso. Di Marzio then quoted Fattizzo saying: "It's true, I met Milan's executives with Karim Benzema's representatives, but I can't say anything else." Djaziri responded again by calling Di Marzio a clown and suggesting that the Sly Sports man was making up stories to generate some excitement in the transfer window (and no doubt a betting market on Slybet alongside it). Benzema wrote once more on social media: "Really, the lie continues, liar. Stop now guys." Juan Jesus has also made similar comments about Di Marzio, following the Roma defender being linked with Porto and Zenit St Petersburg. Let's be honest, it would not be the first time Sly have made up utter lies in order to generate interest. Babelcopter anyone?

Milan Appoint Chairman

Following AC Milan's takeover by US fund, Elliot Management, the club have appointed a new executive chairman to run the club while they search for a CEO. Paolo Scaroni, the former CEO of Italian oil group Eni, is the chosen man who will take on interim control at the head of a new board. The incumbent CEO, Marco Fassone, has stepped down with immediate effect, handing the reins over to Scaroni.

CR7 To Pay £12.2 Fine

The latest high profile tax fraud case in Spain has been settled. This time it is Cristiano Ronaldo who has been handed a massive fine of nearly 14m euros and a 2 year suspended jail sentence. Ronaldo is just one of a whole string of footballers who have been hauled up in front of the courts in Spain over alleged tax fraud relating to image rights.
