Transfers

Belgian defender Jason Denayer has left Manchester City to join Lyon on a permanent deal for less than £6m.

Leeds United have sent two of their fringe players out on loan. Defender Laurens De Bock has joined Belgian side Ostend on a season long loan, while young Japanese international midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi has joined Greuther Furth on loan with an option to buy. The 21 year old has never played for Leeds first team.

Lincoln City have taken goalkeeper Sam Slocombe on an emergency loan deal for an initial one week loan. The 30 year old's loan from Bristol Rovers can be extended if needed.

Brentford have picked up free agent Josh Dasilva, who left Arsenal in the summer after his contract expired. Brentford will need to pay Arsenal compensation for the 19 year old.

Free agent forward Souleymane Coulibaly has signed for Partick Thistle after leaving Al Ahly.

Real Madrid teenager Martin Odegaard has moved to Vitesse Arnhem on loan for the season.

Paris Saint-Germain hae loaned out young goalkeeper Remy Descamps to Clermont Foot of Ligue 2.

Sporting Gijon have spent in excess of £2m to sign Serbian striker Uros Djurdjevic from Olympiacos.

Sporting Clube de Portugal have spent around £4.5m to sign Abdoulay Diaby from Club Brugge.

 

Johnson Becomes First Managerial Casualty Of The Season

Gary Johnson has lasted just four games into the season before League Two side Cheltenham Town fired the veteran manager. Despite the Cotswolds' side picking up their first point of the season in a draw at Macclesfield Town, the board had seen enough and decided to remove him. A club statement read: "It is with great regret that the board of Cheltenham Town have this evening parted company with manager Gary Johnson. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks for the tireless work that Gary has done on behalf of the club, work that has left the club in a stronger position than when he took over." Johnson took over at Cheltenham with them bottom of League Two in 2015, led them back into the league in the 2015/16 season, but had struggled to do any more than battle relegation since.

 

Brunt Retires From International Football

West Bromwich Albion's Chris Brunt has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 33, with 65 caps under his belt. Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill said: "I am disappointed Chris is retiring as I believe he still has much to offer the team, however I completely understand his decision to spend a bit more time with his young family and to concentrate on his club career. I want to thank him for everything he gave me on the pitch. He was a model professional and his contribution to the Northern Ireland team over the past 14 years will be remembered for a long time."

 

Pjanic Signs New Deal

Juventus have been boosted by the news that midfielder Miralem Pjanic has signed a new five year contract with the Serie A champions. The 28 year old Bosnia and Herzogovina international has become a key figure in the centre of midfield, especially with the loss of Claudio Marchisio this summer.

 

Beckham Set For UEFA Award

David Beckham is set to be given the UEFA President's Award for his contribution to football and promoting the sport all over the world. Beckham was also praised for his "tireless humanitarian efforts". The award will be presented in Monaco later in the year.

 

Wenger Set To Receive Liberian Honour

In a move that has caused huge amounts of controversy in Liberia, President George Weah is to award Arsene Wenger the country's highest honour. Weah had been signed by Wenger in 1988 for Monaco and is set to induct Wenger into Liberia's Order of Distinction and to be given the title of Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption, the highest possible rank.
