Review of the Day

Transfer Round Up

Free agent midfielder Ryan Williams has signed for Tranmere Rovers. Williams has recently been plying his career in Canada and Brazil.

Another free agent has found a team, as Jim O'Brien has joined Bradford City on a short-term deal until December. O'Brien left Ross County in the summer.

Former Manchester City defender Nedum Onouha has moved across to the USA to join MLS side Real Salt Lake (is that the worst team name in MLS? It is even more pathetic than Inter Miami I think) after leaving QPR in the summer. The 31 year old claims to have rejected interest from Championship and Premier League clubs to take up the offer of a game in MLS.

England's 5th Tier Gets Charity Rebrand

England's fifth tier competition, the National League, is set to be rebranded as the MANarama National League for a month in partnership with Prostrate Cancer UK. League is normally branded by title sponsor Vanarama, but the league will be branded as MANarama until Non-League Day on 13th October.

Weah Breaks International Record

Liberia's president George Weah has officially been awarded the record as oldest international player ever to represent his country when he faced Nigeria on Tuesday in a friendly played to retire his shirt number of 14. 51 year old Weah beat the previous record of 48 by Greece captain Yorghos Koudas in 1995.

Chievo On Minus Two Points

Serie A side Chievo has been docked three points after they were found guilty of accounting irregularities, leaving them on minus 2 points in the league table. They were found to have operated in partnership with Cesena, who escaped punishment after they went bankrupt during the summer. "The two clubs were referred for approving variations in the registration of some players, indicating a payment higher than the real [value]," said the Italian Football Federation.

Spurs Lose Lloris For Several Weeks

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been ruled out for a number of weeks after picking up a thigh injury. The club captain is expected to be joined on the sidelines for this weekend by England midfielder Dele Alli.

Neymar Launches Comic Books

Paris Saint-Germain's professional whiner, Neymar Jr, has launched his own range of comic books (or graphic novels if you prefer) called Inked: Art Animates Life. Neymar has no involvement in the writing or animation but his image is used for the main character (called Junior) in the books. The story revolves around a young man who constantly cheats while whining he gets no respect for his skill in cheating. Oh no, sorry, that is his real life story. The comics are something about tattoos coming to life to save his sister. As if Neymar is not big-headed enough, he is now being cast as a super-hero. It is enough to make me want to vomit!

Lyon Midfielder Signs Contract Extension

Tanguy Ndombele has signed a new 5-year contract with Lyon, extending his previous deal by one year, despite interest from the English Premier League. Ndombele said: "I'm happy to stay one more season at Lyon. That's the thing I wanted. I hope we're going to have a great season. It was important to me. I only had one season here, I wanted to stay to continue my progression. I want to do great things here. I have personal goals, but I prefer to keep them for myself. I had a good season because people were not expecting me to be at that level."

Former Nimes Owners Sent To Jail For Match Fixing

Jean-Marc Conrad and Serge Kasparian, former majority owners of Ligue 1 side Nimes, who have just returned to France's top flight after 25 years away, have been sentenced to jail. The pair have received 18 month sentences plus 18 months suspended for match-fixing.

RB Leipzig Take A Leaf Out Of Burnley's Book

RB Leipzig have introduced a 'Wheel of Misfortune', similar to the one Sean Dyche has been using since taking charge of Burnley, in place of usual punishments, such as fines. Instead of being fined for transgressions such as being late for training or using their mobile phones during training, now players have to spin the wheel and suffer the forfeit that it lands on.
The 12 punishments included on the wheel
1. Ball assistant: Pump up the balls, get them on the pitch, clean them - 30 minutes per unit
2. Assistant academy coach: Train one of the academy teams on an otherwise free day - four hours
3. Stadium tour guide: Explain locker room. etc. to participants - one hour
4. Get lucky: No punishment
5. Greenkeeper: Mow and take care of the training pitch - four to six hours within a training week
6. Princess: Wear a pink jersey or ballerina tutu for training - 90 minutes
7. Barman: Mix drinks ahead of training, fill bottles with water - 20 minutes per unit, one training week.
8. Fanshop: Work in the club shop for three hours
9. Kitchen service: Serve salads in the team cafeteria, clean the tables - 30 minutes per day
10. Kit man: Take care of dirty jerseys, help with cleaning boots - 30 minutes per day
11. Team bus: Pack the bus with crates and bags on day of away matches - around 1.5 hours
12. Gifts for employees: Purchase small gifts for all of Leipzig's 60 members of staff.

Renato Sanches Claims He Has No Weakness

Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches, coming back from a disastrous loan spell with Swansea City, has claimed he has no weaknesses. Presumably he means other than lacking the ability to kick the ball in the direction he wishes it to go. Oh and the clear weakness he has for fast food, which leaves him visibly overweight. Other than that, and laziness, and an inability to head the ball, tackle or shoot, but other than that, he has no weaknesses. Sanches said on Bayern's in-house TV channel: "I'm ready to play here this season. I have no weaknesses; I'm strong. My aim is to play here and stay at Bayern as long as possible I feel very happy here and it's an honour for me since Bayern are one of the best clubs in the world - anybody would love to play here and I want to work hard now and give everything I've got."
