Review of the Day

Tarkowski Facing Surgery

England defender (how?!?) James Tarkowski is facing groin surgery to fix an ongoing surgery, according to his Burnley boss Sean Dyche. The 25 year old withdrew from contention for England (though how bad must the options be if he is even in contention?) to have hernia surgery, but has been suffering with a similar problem this season. Dyche said: "It's so hard to measure from the outside. The hernia's a strange one as everyone knows. You can kind of get away with it but it's how long you get away with it for and how much trouble it causes you. He's managed pretty well overall but I think it has affected him, which is why we've made a decision with him to see the specialist and go with what they decide."

Rice Has Not Made International Decision Yet

West Ham United youngster Declan Rice has still not decided on whether to commit to England or Ireland. The 19 year old was born in London but qualifies for the Republic of Ireland and has 3 senior caps in friendlies for them, which leaves him eligible for England still. Rice said: "Without a doubt, it is not an easy decision. I need to make the right decision, what is best for me and my family. Martin was excellent when he came to my house and Gareth was excellent and they both understand the position I am in. I said I just need some time. Being 19, I never thought I would be in a position to make such a hard decision."

UEFA Launch eSports Champions League

Hot on the heels of the Premier League launching an ePremier League last month, UEFA have announced the launch of an eChampions League. Obviously both organisations put a lot of thought into the names! The players will be competing for a top prize of $100,000.

Esperance Lift African Champions League

Tunisian side Esperance have beaten Al Ahly to win their 3rd CAF Champions League. The first leg had ended 3-1 to the Egyptians, due to Ahly getting 2 controversial penalties that were confirmed by VAR. There was more controversy when Ahly's Moroccan striker Walid Azaro was caught on TV cameras ripping his own shirt and getting himself a 2 game ban. Esperance fought back to win the second leg 3-0 to get a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Welbeck Injury Significant

Arsenal have confirmed that England striker Danny Welbeck has sustained a "significant" right ankle injury during the Europa League clash with Sporting Clube de Portugal. Welbeck was injured after landing badly on his ankle when jumping for a header.

FIFA Investigate Man City Over Third Party Ownership

Fresh allegations emanating from Football Leaks have claimed that Manchester City had broken third-party ownership rules with Danish club FC Nordsjaelland. It has been claimed that City has an agreement with the Danish Superliga side allowing them to recruit African players, via Nordsjaelland's Right to Dream Academy between 2016 and 2020. Nordsjaelland president Tom Vernon confirmed that there had been an agreement but said it had "not been in force for some time". The contract, according to Football Leaks, stated that Nordsjaelland "shall be obliged to use its best endeavours to effect the transfer" if Man City wanted one of their academy players. FIFA have said they are looking into the matter, as third-party ownership was banned by them in 2015. City have also been alleged to have topped up sponsorship via input from the owner, as well as hiding spending to avoid FFP sanctions.

Leicester To Put Up Statue To Late Chairman

Leicester City have announced that they will be erecting a statue to Vrichai Srivaddanaprabha, who died in a helicopter crash at their home stadium last month. Vrichai's son, Aiyawatt, announced the statue in the souvenir programme for the match against Burnley, saying: "We will never be able to repay what he did for us - for me as his son, us as his family, everyone connected to Leicester City and beyond. We are committed to honouring his memory and upholding his legacy. Our continued growth as a club, our state-of-the-art new training ground and our planned stadium expansion will help realise his vision for Leicester City."

Sterling Signs Huge New Contract

No doubt paid for by overvalued sponsorship deals, Manchester City forward Raheem $terling has signed a huge new £300,000 a week contract to extend his contract by 3 years. The England forward has, just like Sergio Aguero, overcome Pep Guardiola's initial misgivings to hold down a regular place with the blue side of Manchester.

West Ham midfielder Pedro Obiang has rejected Equatorial Guinea call-ups in the past, in the hope that the country of his birth, and that he represented at youth level, Spain would call him up. However the 26 year old is now set to play for his parents country after accepting a call-up.

Neymar Paid To Clap Fans After Games

Clauses in Neymar's ridiculous Paris Saint-Germain contract have been revealed by Football Leaks, revealing that he gets a 2.5m euros a year bonus purely for not criticising the manager in public. 2m euros if he gets a top 3 finish in Balon D'Or are also on offer, along with a ridiculous 375,000 euros a year simply for 'greeting' fans before and after games. It was also claimed he is on just a little shy of £1m a week! Sad world we live in when players have to be paid obscene sums just to bother with the fans. Basically he is being paid a bonus to do things he should be doing anyway.

Coutinho Out Of Brazil Squad

Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho has pulled out of the Brazil squad for next week's friendlies. The playmaker has pulled a thigh muscle in his left leg and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
