Marca Claim Palacios Set For Madrid

Marca, often used by Real Madrid to unsettle players and make it easier to sign them, have claimed that Madrid have already made one signing to be completed in the January transfer window. 20 year old Argentine midfielder Exequiel Palacios is set to join the reigning Champions League holders for a fee of about £20m, according to the Spanish tabloid. Palacios has been linked with a number of top clubs, including bitter rivals Barcelona, in recent months and there was controversy after his current team, River Plate, complained to the press in Argentina that Madrid had gone "behind River's back" to talk to the player and negotiate terms.

Arnautovic Wants Champions League Team

West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic, who has 5 goals in 10 Premier League appearances this season, wants to move to a Champions League team according to his brother Danijel, despite being "extremely comfortable" with the Hammers and loving the club and fans. Danijel said: "There is also the feeling that this cannot be it - purely from a sporting perspective. And everyone should be sympathetic to that. He's playing in the Premier League, there he's already in the circle of the best. But for a player like Marko, it can't be. How do you think he feels about turning on the TV Tuesday or Wednesday? Every player's heart bleeds when he knows he has the stuff to play. I think you can tease out a little more with him, but that's only going to happen if he's actually playing for a top team as well. Marko is ready for the next step. One like him should not fight against relegation, but play for the top places and compete internationally. It was already very close in the summer. Actually within reach. So there are options. And that's what we're exploring."

Cameron Gets Macc Deal

The club sat on the bottom of League Two, Macclesfield Town, have moved to sign free agent defender Nathan Cameron on a short term deal until January. The 26 year old was released by Bury in the summer after 5 years at Gigg Lane.

Bradford Make Changes

One in, one out at Bradford City as the Bantams push assistant coach Greg Abbott out of the door and bring in free agent defender Paul Caddis until the end of the season. Abbott had initially joined the club as head of recruitment in 2016. Caddis, now 30, was released by Birmingham City in the summer.

Forest Keeper Moves On Emergency Loan

League One's Barnsley have taken Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Jordan Smith on a 7-day emergency loan after Jack Walton suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday, while number one keeper Adam Davies is away on international duty with Wales.

Gunners Do Not Want To Leave Prem

Arsenal's managing director Vinai Venkatesham has said that the club have no interest in leaving the Premier League, but wish to be involved in conversations over the European Super League. Venkatesham said: "We have to be in the conversations. It doesn't necessarily mean we support them. Arsenal aren't, or never have been, interested in playing in any competition that weakens the Premier League. The Premier League is the world's leading league in the leading sport - we don't want to do anything to damage it. When people talk about the European Super League, that covers a really big spectrum. People jump to one end of the spectrum and think this is what we are talking about - but actually often it's just a slight evolution from where we are today. I see these articles that Arsenal want to break away. We never want to do any of that. But we also have to recognise we have to be in these conversations or we wouldn't be responsible."

Rakitic Missing For Croatia

Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitic has returned to his club, Barcelona, and will not face England due to injury. The Nations League match is vital to both countries, with the winner qualifying for the semi-finals.

Petkov Sets New Record

Bulgarian keeper Georgi Petkov has become the oldest goalkeeper to play for a European team in an international as his country drew with Cyprus in the Nations League. Petkov had not played for his country for 9 years but played the full 90 minutes to become, at the age of 42 years, 8 months and 2 days, the oldest goalkeeper to play for a European nation. He is also the oldest player to appear in Bulgaria's top flight. Giorgos Koudas is the oldest ever, when he was given a Wayne Rooney-style farewell cap, 13 years after his previous final cap at the age of 48.

Valencia Denies Injury Keeps Him Out

Just a few days after Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho had said Antonio Valencia was injured and could not train with the team, which is why he was not being picked, Valencia has said he is fit and left out for tactical reasons. Valencia said: "The relationship with Mourinho has always been a good one. Right now I haven't been playing, but it's more of a tactical decision. The player who has been in my place has been playing well. You have to respect the decision. The only thing I can do is prepare and be ready for when he needs me and be in the right condition to compete. I'm calm right now and I know I'll get an opportunity to play again."
