Review of the Day

Bullen Backs Bruce

Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with Steve Bruce to replace the sacked Jos Luhukay and Bruce has now got the backing of the caretaker manager Lee Bullen. Bullen spoke about the crime novelist and former Aston Villa, Hull City and numerous other clubs managed in a career that is long past its sell-by date after Bruce's assistants at the Villa job, Stve Agnew and Steve Clemence, were spotted watching Wednesday play at the weekend. Bullen told the BBC: "From my point of view it looks like they (Bruce & team) are coming in but I have no confirmation either way. If that is the case I think the chairman has done the right thing. For a manager of Steve's credentials, if you get the opportunity to talk to him, you don't knock it back. He's been there and done it." Yes, been there and done it but is a dinosaur who has been left behind by modern football. Is it just me who thinks he is saying nice things in the hope of still having a job with the club under Bruce?

Reading Turn To Portugal For New Man

Championship relegation battlers Reading have appointed Rio Ave manager Jose Gomes as their new boss. Gomes, who was sat in 8th in the Portugese league with Rio Ave, replaces Paul Clement, who was given the boot on 6th December, after poor results which saw Reading down near the foot of the table. Clement's coaches Nigel Gibbs and Dave Beasant have now left the club following the arrival of Gomes. Gomes said: "I am confident in this project. I know how the club and the fans around the club feel the results, so I am here to help and to put our club in the right place. The Championship is the most competitive league in the world. Before the start of the season, about 20 of the teams want to go to the Premier League. It will be a very difficult mission but I am completely sure that we will achieve what we want."

Cambridge Give Away Xmas Cheer

Struggling Cambridge United have given the fans that showed up for their League Two match on Saturday a Christmas gift. All 101 fans who turned up were given free entry a free non-alcoholic drink and a free pie or snack. I am sure Ed Woodward has taken note ready for next Christmas. Must be gutting for those fans who decided to give it a miss to save some money around Christmas time!

Footballer Sells DNA

Former club captain of AIK Nils-Eric Johansson, now retired due to a heart defect, is selling crystallised cloned copies of his DNA. Not sure why anyone would want that. It just feels a bit weird. No a lot weird. It is not even something that can be cloned, though I suppose who would want to clone it when he has a health issue like a heart defect anyway, as it is not 100% of his DNA. Probably best it is not his full DNA or you know his DNA would be found at a lot of crime scenes in years to come. Perhaps that could be his USP? 'Want to cover up a murder? Buy my DNA....' Anyway, we all know it will all go wrong when they combine the DNA with amphibian DNA and they all start to replicate without needing a female and the world is swamped under billions of Nils-Eric Johanssons.

Ramos Complains About Being Disrespected

Real Madrid's captain Sergio Ramos has complained about his treatment during the Club World Cup final on Saturday saying: "I think you have to respect the figures of football." Ramos was complaining as his every touch was greeted by the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi being filled with loud boos. Ramos called the boos "inexplicable". He should probably just be grateful they were not playing in Egypt!
