Could this season get any worse for Sunderland? First the man who saved them last season, Mr. Integrity Sam Allardyce, was poached by England just when the club were trying to make plans for this season. Since then, the arrival of David Moyes has failed to galvanise the players or transfer business, which was little short of disastrous this summer. In fact, it is difficult to see exactly what Moyes has done to take things forward.

The Mackems were poor last season, but at least they looked like they cared, like they had fight and effort and desire, all things Moyes was known for instilling in his Everton side. This Sunderland side lacks any desire, any effort, any fight, and are meekly surrendering to relegation. They are not even producing good football, there is literally nothing to give the fans any hope at all. They are simply relying on a miracle from Jermaine Defoe each week.

With Allardyce available once more, the pressure is growing fast on Moyes, with the fans already beginning to lose faith in him, if they ever had any that is. At least, that was before they finally got a win, away at Bournemouth. That surprise comeback win, despite ending the game with ten ment, suggests there is heart and desire there, if Moyes can just ignite it on a regular basis.

Is it too late for the Mackems to recover? Certainly not yet, judging by the evidence of previous seasons', teams in the past have certainly recovered from worse positions. They need the fans behind them as fully as possible if they are to have any hope, has the victory over the Cherries done that for them, only time will tell. Without the fans, they may as well throw in the towel now.
