Football News: My current thoughts on West Ham United

My current thoughts on West Ham United

I think Sebastien Haller looks completely isolated up top on his own. He needs support. Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City built a team on a 4-2-2-2 formation, I'd love to see West Ham United work with that, I just don't think we have the players for it. I also wouldn't be disappointed to see us convert to a creative 3-5-2 formation.

Roberto has made some great saves since Fabianski got injured, but he is not a good goalkeeper. David Martin is waiting in the wings and he must be in with a shot soon.

Sadly Pablo Zabaleta doesn't have the legs anymore.

Fredericks is fast and when on form doesn't look out of place in the Premier League, but he isn't consistent. I think as part of a back 4 in this league, he doesn't have the defensive qualities we need, but as a wing back, he'd be decent.

Our centre backs last year were actually pretty good, somehow this season it's like they've forgotten what they're doing.

Cresswell has completely gone off the boil. put aside the goals he has scored this season, he hasn't been the same defensively since Sam Allardyce left. I don't think he suits the style of play Pellegrini likes and I don't think he is a wingback.

Masuaku defensively is a liability, but in a wingback position, with more freedom to go forward, he is decent.

In midfield we look sloppy. Declan Rice in the last couple of games hasn't been great and Mark Noble whilst an absolute workhorse and a superb servant of the club, I don't think he is the quality player we need alongside Rice every week.

January is a funny window. players cost more than they should because clubs try to panic fill problem positions. however, I'd like to see us sign a couple of players.

I think we already have players in the squad that could play 3-5-2 And that formation would mean less investment in January. We'd potentially only need a centre back and a defensive midfielder to make that system work.

I don't know how much money we have in the coffers for January, but there are one or two players.

I've been suggesting Domagoj Vida for years now (could of signed him on a free a couple of years ago), ok he is 30 and he plays for Besiktas and may not be the smartest investment now, but he's quick, good in the air and can play anywhere across the back line.

In defensive midfield I'd look at Stanislav Lobotka again, he is tenacious, can defend but can also pass a ball. He'd fit in nicely alongside Rice in the middle of the park.

This is just a random thought, but Emre Can has barely played for Juventus this year, he too wouldn't be a bad option on loan.

A starting 11 of

Martin

Diop - Vida - Ogbonna

Fredericks - Lobotka - Rice - Masuaku

Anderson

Haller - Yarmolenko

Then when people are fit.

Fabianski instead of Martin
Antonio instead of Fredericks

And that still leaves the creativity of Fornals and Lanzini, you could push Anderson up top and put one of those there.
