Ronan Curtis has signed a new three and a half year deal with Portsmouth.

Liam Ridgewell was released by Southend United.

Managerial Changes

Former Nigerian international winger Emmanuel Amuneke has been appointed manager of Egyptian Premier League team El-Makkasa. The 49 year old replaces Ahmed Hossam Mido, the former Tottenham Hotspur striker. Amuneke's first made his name in Egypt as a player with Zamalek, before going on to play for Sporting Clube de Portugal and Barcelona.

Champions League Or Bust

Pep Guardiola believes that his time at Manchester City will be regarded as a failure unless he brings the Champions League trophy back to Eastlands. Guardiola, who was hired with the aim of finally cracking that particular nut by Citeh's Abu Dhabi owners, has won five domestic trophies but has yet to get beyond the quarter-finals of the Champions League under him. Guardiola said: "Last year was an extraordinary one for us but people say, 'But you didn't win the Champions League'. That is why I will be judged, if we don't win it in my final period here, that I will be a failure here. I know that."

Buvac Heads For Moscow

Zlejko Buvac, the former right-hand man to Jurgen Klopp at Mainz 05, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool, has been appointed as Dynamo Moscow's sporting director. Buvac left Liverpool in April 2018 amid questions about how would Klopp cope without him at his side, and has been out of the game until now. Buvac was described as 'the brain' by Klopp while they worked together.

Double Sending Off

In the Spanish second division a match between Fuenlabrada and Girona went from the bizarre to the ridiculous with the help of VAR as Fuenlabrada player Cristobal Marquez managed to get himself sent off twice. Marquez was initially sent off for a high challenge on an opponent, but while Marquez went off down the tunnel for an early bath the referee checked the pitchside monitor. After a second look at the incident, the referee decided he had been too harsh and called Marquez back on to the pitch, showing him a yellow card and rescinding the red. Play never even got underway again before Marquez got involved in an angry exchange with Girona's Alex Granell and both players were booked, meaning Marquez was straight back down the tunnel for that early bath after all.

Infantino Proposes AFCON Change

The president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, has told a Confederation of African Football seminar in Morocco that he believes the Africa Cup of Nations should only be held every four years, rather than the current system of holding it every two years. Infantino said: "I propose to organise the Africa Cup of Nations every four years rather than two years. The CAN [Africa Cup of Nations] generates twenty times less than the Euros. Having a CAN every two years, is that good at the commercial level? Has this developed the infrastructure? Think about spending it every four years."
