Coronavirus Latest

UEFA have postponed all UEFA competition matches scheduled for next week and the draws for the next round of the Champions League and Europa League have also been put off for now.

English football has been suspended until the 3rd April with a number of people in the Premier League testing positive. Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi have both tested positive for the virus. Three Leicester City players are being tested, while the Everton squad has gone into self-isolation after one player reported symptoms consistent with the virus. At Bournemouth, five members of staff are self-isolating after displaying symptoms. An English Football League statement explained: "The FA, Premier League, EFL and Barclays FA Women's Super League and FA Women's Championship have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England until 3 April at the earliest. This action, which will be kept under constant review, has been taken due to the increasing numbers of clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus. The postponements include all matches in the Championship, League One and League Two, as well as all academy and youth team fixtures. In addition, clubs are being advised to suspend indefinitely all non-essential activities which include, but are not limited to, player appearances, training ground visits and fan meetings. Whilst the EFL board has continued to take the advice and guidance offered by the Government and its health advisors, emerging developments mean now is the time to implement football's contingency plans in response to the crisis. A further update on these plans will be given post an EFL board meeting next week. This decision has not been taken lightly, but the EFL must prioritise the health and well-being of players, staff and supporters while also acknowledging the Government's national efforts in tackling this outbreak."

Scottish football has also shut down their football programme until "further notice".

The German Bundesliga has also postponed all football at the weekend. The German Football Association (DFL) announced: "The goal remains to finish the season until the summer - for sporting reasons but also the financial integrity of our clubs." Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has told Kicker that the season should continue: "At the end of the day, this is about money received from television broadcasters. When there is no money, many teams will start to struggle financially. That is why I believe that the matchday should proceed as per usual."

Canada have cancelled their upcoming international matches this month. A Canada Soccer statement read: "With the best interest of the safety of players, coaches, officials, staff, and fans, Canada Soccer has canceled upcoming home international matches in British Columbia on the FIFA calendar. As the national governing body for the sport of soccer in the country, Canada Soccer has been and will continue to closely monitor all COVID-19 developments in consultation with the Public Health Agency of Canada and relevant governing bodies through the Canada Soccer Sport Medicine Committee."

CONCACAF, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, announced that they are suspending all competitions for a 30 day period.

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris has revealed that one of the Bluebirds' players and a member of staff are both self-isolating. Neither have tested positive, the isolation is precautionary.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon claims his side should be crowned champions if the Scottish season cannot be completed. Lennon said: "If it was to stop now I would doubt very much that they would say it was null and void. It could be death by a thousand cuts. We have played over 30 games, that's well over two thirds of the season so we should be declared champions. Certainly, if you are talking about the Armageddon of the league being cancelled or stopped, it should go on the average points total which would make us clear champions and rightly so. We are over 30 games in to the season, they are not going to take that away from us."

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed this month's qualifying matches for the 2021 Afcon tournament.
