Injury Round-Up

Former Scotland, Manchester United and Aberdeen goalkeeper Jim Leighton has called himself lucky after a chat with a former team-mate led to him discovering he had prostrate cancer. The 62 year old was talking to former Aberdeen player, Willie Garner, who had just been diagnosed with the disease, and was convinced by Garner to have himself tested for the disease. Leighton told the BBC: "I was very lucky. I got tested and my PSA count was through the roof and it just went from there. I was due to have my prostate removed in June and I got a phone call a week before to say the cancer had escaped into my lymph nodes and they weren't going to take the prostate out. I had to go on to hormone injections for two years and I had 37 consecutive work days off with radiotherapy. I got a phone call in the last couple of months to say the cancer in my blood is undetectable. That was a big boost for us. The problem I have is that when my injections stop the prostate will start working again so at some stage the cancer is likely to come back, but we will just deal with that if and when it happens." Leighton has now urged others to have their prostrate checked saying: "All it is is a blood test and it only takes two minutes."

Three more Hamilton Academical players will be self-isolating for 10 days after testing positive for the coronavirus. Lee Hodson had already been in self-isolation after his house-mate, St Mirren keeper Jak Alnwick, tested positive. Hamilton cancelled training for the day in response in order to deep clean the stadium.

Four people have tested positive in the Premier League for Covid-19. A Premier League statement read: "No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the league and results will be made public after each round of testing." There were 2,131 people, from players to club staff, tested and the four who tested positive will have to self-isolate for 10 days.

Adam Lallana's debut for Brighton & Hove Albion ended in the first half after the new signing from Liverpool picked up an injury in the first half. The 32 year old's career has been badly hit by injuries in the last few years and this was just his 10th start in the Premier League in 4 seasons.

Managerial Changes

Disciplinary Charges

Dundee United defender Mark Connolly has been charged by the Scottish FA after it was reported that he refused to wear a mask while in a taxi after a night out in Dundee. Connolly has been charged with not acting in the best interests of football and for breaching Covid-19 regulations.

In Ligue 1 Montpellier captain Hilton became the first player over the age of 43 to play in the league for 64 years. He then added two bookings to celebrate the occasion with a red card as his team held on to beat Olympique Lyonnais.

New UEFA Comp

UEFA have announced the return of a third tier European competition for next season, to go along with the reduction in size of the Europa League. The tournament will mostly contain teams from Europe's smaller leagues, but will also feature the teams to finish 6th in Spain, Italy and Germany as well as the winners of the League Cup from England. The winners of the competition will qualify for the following seasons Europa League.

Leistner Does A Dier

Former Queens Park Rangers defender Toni Leistner has climbed into the stands to confront fans of his first club, Dynamo Dresden. The 30 year old, who plays for Hamburg now, was waiting to do a TV interview when he claims to have been insulted by a Dresden fan. He then climbed into the stands and pushed one Dresden fan and argued with others before eventually returning to the pitch. Dresden have apologised and condemned the supporter involved saying on social media: "We're looking for the person because we don't want to let this incident stand. Thanks to 99.9% of all stadium visitors for your support." There were 10,000 fans in attendance, the biggest attendance in Germany since the coronavirus lockdown began.

Aulas Dismisses Barca Rumours

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has used his social media to deny reports that Memphis Depay is on the verge of a move to Barcelona to be Ronald Koeman's first signing. Aulas said: "The president of Barça told me on Sunday that Barça was suffering a lot from the COVID crisis and had no possibility of making an offer."
