Injury Round-Up

Leyton Orient have revealed that "a number" of first team players have tested positive for coronavirus ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has missed the game with Wolverhampton Wanderers after testing positive for coronavirus and going into a 10-day self-isolation period.

Managerial Changes

Former Welsh international David Pipe has returned to Newport County to take up a role as fitness coach. The 36 year old retired from playing in 2019 having made over 200 appearances for the Exiles and will now work on a part-time basis at Rodney Parade.

Disciplinary Charges

Aberdeen and Celtic have both been given a fine of £30,000 by the SPFL after players from both breached Covid-19 rules. Eight players from Aberdeen visited a bar together, where two contracted the virus and caused the postponement of 3 Scottish Premiership matches. Celtic had two games postponed after Boli Bolingoli went off to Spain and came back and played against Kilmarnock without a quarantine period on his return. The two clubs will only actually pay £8,000 now, the remaining £22,000 will only be paid in the case of a further breach.

Inter Milan president Steven Zhang has been fined 8,000 euros for describing Serie A president Paolo Dal Pino a clown. Zhang called Dal Pino a clown on social media over the handling of the postponement of the 2019/20 season following the coronavirus pandemic. Inter Milan have also been fined 5,000 euros.

Williams Told To Earn Move

Exeter City winger Randell Williams has been told to prove himself worthy of a step up in divisions following the breakdown of a move to a League One side. Williams led League Two in assists for the Grecians last season and was left out of the 2-0 loss at the hands of Port Vale while talks were ongoing over a move. Exeter manager Matt Taylor has now told the 23 year old to prove he deserves a better offer than he got. Taylor said: "Randell's now got to prove he's a good enough player to get a better offer than what he was given. He's put himself on a certain pedestal, go and show you're a good player, and he'll only do that by getting his head down and working hard. Randell went and met the manager but felt it was not the right opportunity for himself. I have no problem whatsoever, there were other suitors but no-one reached the valuation, so Randell has come back and he's our player."

Wigan Buyers Pull Out Of Takeover

The administrators for Wigan Athletic have revealed that news on social media of a lower bid for the League One team caused the principal bidder to drop out of the running. The bidder, who remains anonymous, was due to deposit £4m with the lawyers for Begbies Traynor but, according to the administrators, they withdrew their bid due to news circulating that a £2m bid for the club has been rejected. Begbies Traynor released a statement which read: "Taken together with the costs of the appeal [against last season's points deduction], the loss in administration is over £3m which has to be paid before any dividend can be paid to the unsecured creditors. That becomes an impossibility when the actual offer is only £2m. If this bid is remade it will be given very serious consideration."
