Review of the Day

Contracts

Brentford have signed up defender Ethan Pinnock to a new 5 year contract.

Transfers

Salford City have released midfielder Joey Jones by mutual consent. The 26 year old has only played once this season.

Danny Lloyd, who also left Salford City but in the summer, has found himself a club in the shape of League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Former Monaco defender Raphael Diarra has signed for Oldham Athletic for the rest of the season. The 25 year old was a free agent after being released by a third-tier side in France called US Quevilly.

Free agent former Arsenal youth player Alex Song has signed for Djibouti club Arta Solar 7.

Young winger Mateo Bajamich has joined Argentine side Instituto on loan from Houston Dynamo.

Brazilian defender Alan Empereur has joined Palmeiras on loan from Hellas Verona.

Injury Round-Up

Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been ruled out until the New Year after knee surgery. The 25 year old picked up an injury during Bayern's 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund in a challenge with Dortmund's Erling Haaland. Bayern said Kimmich underwent successful surgery on Sunday on his right lateral meniscus.

An injury suffered in Manchester United's 3-1 win over Everton has ruled left-back Luke Shaw out for a month.

Managerial Changes

Sheffield Wednesday have sacked every Leeds United fans' favourite manager Garry Monk after just 14 months in charge. Monk had managed to win just 2 of the last 12 games. His backroom staff have all also been given the boot.

The chairman of the Football Association Greg Clarke has been once again caught in a storm of his own making with his outdated comments. Just a few years on from trying to deny institutional racism and describing it as "fluff" he then embodied institutional racism with comments to Parliament. He has since (thankfully) resigned, just 4 years and 5 months too late.

Legendary free-kick and penalty taking goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has been appointed as the new head coach of Flamengo. The 47 year old replaces Dominic Torrent, the former assistant of Pep Guardiola.

Fiorentina have fired Giuseppe Iachini and replaced him with Cesare Prandelli. Fiorentina are currently sat in 12th place following a 10th place finish in Serie A last season under Iachini.

Hibs Sign Battery Link Up

USL Championship side Charleston Battery have agreed a link with Scottish Premiership club Hibernian. Two Battery players, former Rangers youngster Robbie Crawford and defender Leland Archer, will join Hibs to train with them as the USL season is over. Hibs are planning to send two youngsters over to Charleston early next year, ahead of the new USL season. Battery's chief operating officer Mike Kelleher said: "It provides a pathway for players on both sides to grow immensely. It provides a stepping stone for our players who have potential to perform at some of the highest levels of European soccer. And to welcome players from Hibernian to share their expertise and train with our players here in Charleston, we couldn't ask for a better partner to expand our international scouting network."

CAF Gets 4th Entrant In Presidential Race

The head of Mauritania's Football Federation Ahmed Yahya has become the 4th man to enter himself as a candidate to become president of the Confederation of African Football. Yahya has received praise from FIFA president Gianni Infantino recently for his work in Mauritania, though I am not sure if that is a good thing or not?

Deschamps Questions Pogba's Happiness

France's national team boss Didier Deschamps has claimed that French international midfielder Paul Pogab "cannot be happy" at Manchester United. Deschamps said: "He is in a situation with his club where he cannot be happy, neither with his playing time, nor with his positioning. He is not in his best period, he has had a series of injuries and the Covid-19 which has hit him quite hard. He needs to find his rhythm. With me, there is no such concern. When a player is in discomfort in his club, obviously, he is happy to play for the France team. He will tell me about his feelings and, as I know him very well, it will go in a positive direction."

Ten EFL Clubs Struggling To Pay Wages

A parliamentary committee in England has been told by their chairman that 10 English Football League clubs are struggling to pay their wage bill this month. Julian Knight also described the proposed £50m rescue package for League One and Two from the Premier League as "pitiful". Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said: "The Premier League is engaged and wants to seek resolution but there can't be a blank cheque or an underwriting of losses."

Portugese Clubs Raided

A number of clubs in the Portugese league have been raided in the search for evidence of suspected money laundering, tax evasion and embezzlement. Benfica, Sporting Club de Portugal, CD Santa Clara and second-tier side Academica Coimbra all confirmed that they were searched. The Portugese Attorney General's office announced that 29 locations were raided in relations to crimes related to player transfers between 2011 and 2014.
