Review of the Day

Contracts

Northampton Town player-coach Alan Sheehan has extended his contract until the end of the season.

Transfers

Former Liverpool youngster Lloyd Jones has signed for Northampton Town until the end of the season.

Dutch right-back Daryl Janmaat, who had spent 6 years in English football with Newcastle United and Watford, has returned to his first club ADO Den Haag.

Former Arsenal and West Ham United malingerer Jack Wilshere is training with former loan club Bournemouth to keep up his fitness levels while he looks for a club stupid enough to sign him.

Diego Costa has been released by Atletico Madrid.

Costa Rican full-back Ronald Matarrita has moved to FC Cincinnati from New York City FC for just under £500,000.

Experienced Argentine forward Lucas Pratto is set to make his fourth attempt at breaking through in European football at the age of 32. Pratto is set to sign for Feyenoord, from River Plate, on a loan deal until the end of the season with an option to make the deal permanent.

Amad Diallo has been granted an Italian passport ahead of the youngster's move to Manchester United from Atalanta.

Free agent former Paris Saint-Germain forward Jese is in talks with an MLS side according to his agent Gines Carvajal. Carvajal told AS: "No, there is no contact with Fenerbahçe, that information is incorrect, we've not been in contact with any Turkish club for that matter. We are talking to a handful of clubs and one of those is an MLS team. Playing in the United States is a possibility for the player but we're also talking to clubs in Spain and one other European outfit."

Former PSG manager Luis Fernandez has revealed that he missed out on signing legendary Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos before he joined Inter Milan during the Canal+ ownership era: "I could have recruited Roberto Carlos in the team. Canal + did not accept because of budgetary issues. The shareholder did not follow me. Roberto Carlos was unknown in the battalion, he was playing in Palmeiras. The club was OK for a pittance. I had him on the phone, he gave me his agreement. Jean-Michel Moutier [PSG's former sporting director] told me 'We have better things on our shelves for this position.' He signed at Inter Milan and then at Real Madrid."

Injury Round-Up

Tottenham Hotspur's on-loan forward Gareth Bale has once again picked up an injury, probably trying to pick up his wallet without assistance. The 31 year old has been ruled out for a few weeks with a calf strain, which will give the Welshman, who is loaned out from Real Madrid, a chance to practice his golf swing in the meantime. Argentine midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is also ruled out for the next few games with a hamstring problem.

Managerial Changes

Libya have appointed Zerwan Filipovic as their new national team coach.

Sheffield Wednesday have sacked Tony Pulis after just ten matches in charge of the Championship relegation battlers. First-team coach Neil Thompson will be in caretaker charge until a permanent replacement is found.

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Thomas Tuchel has been sacked as manager of the reigning French champions.

Fishy People To Get New Owner

The majority shareholder of League Two side Grimsby Town, John Fenty, has agreed to sell the club subject to EFL approval. The takeover talks recently prompted the club's manager, Ian Holloway, to resign. Grimsby are currently sat just 3 points above the relegation places.

Games Off

As well as 7 games in League One being called off on Tuesday night due to the pandemic, the match between table toppers Newport County and Exeter City was called off after referee John Busby deemed the waterlogged pitch unplayable. In League Two the game between Mansfield Town and Salford City was also postponed because of heavy snow, though the Stags still put the blame on the pandemic. Mansfield were unable to get volunteers to help clear snow off the pitch due to lockdown regulations in the area. Morecambe's trip to Bolton was called off because of CV cases, as was the Championship game between Millwall and Watford. Rotherham United, on the other hand, were 'advised' to play against Barnsley or face a points deduction after the virus-hit Millers called off their two previous matches. Rotherham manager Paul Warne told the BBC: "I was advised that if we didn't play there would be retribution because I'm going against medical advice. The medical advice was that nine days' isolation was enough and I have enough players within the football club to get the game on. They [EFL doctors] said the game is playable, and there is the possibility of a points deduction which I do not want hanging over our heads. We've had really good protocol here but, the speed of Covid now, once it hits one person and you're not aware of it, then it can just obliterate the dressing room. That's what we've seen happen to us since the day after the Blackburn game. You do not want games off - I've worked out with the international break, we now play every four days, which is going to be a tough order. But in circumstances like this, and I don't moan much, I feel just a little bit on the hard end of the decision. I think I've got three or four (on the bench) if I'm lucky, so very slim pickings. It does seem harsh, even more so when you've been out for nine days as you would probably use all five subs."

Muller Selling Semen

Bayern Munich's play almost-anywhere midfielder/attacker Thomas Muller is launching a range of premium semen for sale. The German international is married to a champion dressage rider and their horse farm has been turned into an EU ratified insemination station for dressage horses. For just 1,600 euros (+VAT) you can get two rounds of insemination from a Muller-owned double world-champion stallion.
