Former Arsenal youngster Wellington Silva has been released by Fluminese.

Sven Mislintat, formerly Head of Recruitment at Arsenal and now Technical Director at VfB Stuttgart, has confirmed that Stuttgart would like to extend the loan spell of Greek defender Dinos Mavropanos from the Gunners to take in next season as well.

Former Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps player Marcel De Jong has hung up his boots at the age of 34.

David Alaba's agent Pini Zahavi has denied rumours that the Bayern Munich player has agreed a deal to sign for Barcelona in the summer.

Managerial Changes

Manchester United have had a bit of a shuffle in the backroom. John Murtough has been named as their new football director, while Matt Judge has been named director of football negotiations. Darren Fletcher has been promoted to the newly created technical director role at the Red Devils.

Robert Page is to continue in temporary charge of the Wales national team with Ryan Giggs having his bail extended until 1st May, following his arrest on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend.

RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has joined Jurgen Klopp by ruling himself out of contention for the Germany national job when Joachim Loew leaves after the summer Euros. Ralf Rangnick, on the other hand, has confirmed he would be interested in the role. Rangnick is currently out of work after leaving his job as head of sport and development at the Red Bull group last year.

 


Disciplinary Charges

VfB Stuttgart have been fined 300,000 euros for misusing private data about its members. Stuttgart had been accused of passing marketing data over to third parties without informing members. Stuttgart have claimed it was a "negligent breach" and begun a "costly restructuring" of how it handles personal data.

Following their head-to-head clash in the Coppa Italia, Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic have both been found guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct. Despite Ibrahimovic's references to voodoo rites, the Italian FA have decided there was no racism intended by the Swedish forward. The duo, who have been feuding since their time as teammates at Manchester United, will both be fined.

Former Real Madrid and Manchester City forward Robinho's nine year prison sentence for his involvement in a gang rape has been upheld by the Milan court of appeals. The court have released details of the ruling they made back in December, which reveal that Robinho "belittled" and "humiliated" the woman in 2013. They also found that both Robinho and his friend Ricardo Falco tried to mislead investigators from the start with a false version of events the pair had previously agreed upon. The incident occurred in Milan while the victim was celebrating her 23rd birthday. At the time Robinho was on the books of AC Milan. Robinho has one last hope to avoid jail with an appeal to the Supreme Court of Cassation.

 


Sky Blues To Return Home

Coventry City have signed a 10-year contract to return to the Ricoh Arena for next season. The Sky Blues have been playing their home games in Birmingham at the St Andrew's home of Birmingham City since August 2019. The ground will be shared with rugby union side Wasps.

 


U-17 Afcon Called Off

Just five days before it was due to kick off, the Confederation of African Football has decided to cancel the Under-17 African Cup of Nations. The tournament was set to take place in Morocco and will not be rescheduled.

 


Maracana To Be Renamed In Honour Of Pele

Legendary Brazilian footballer Pele is to have another legendary Brazilian icon renamed in his honour. The Maracana stadium, built for the 1950 World Cup, will become the Edson Arantes do Nascimento - Rei Pele stadium. Rei meaning king in Portugese, while Edson Arantes do Nascimento is Pele's full name.
