Former Sunderland and Middlesbrough midfielder Grant Leadbitter has retired from playing aged 35.

Free agent former Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has signed for Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.

Preston North End have signed Connor Wickham.

Melbourne Victory have signed free agent defender Roderick Miranda.

Veteran Algerian international midfielder Adlene Guedioura has signed for Sheffield United.

Former Chelsea, Newcastle United and West Ham United striker Demba Ba has hung up his boots. The former Senegal international is 36 and walked out on Lugano in August.

 


Injury Round-Up

Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite is to have knee surgery after injuring his left knee.

Pele is to come out of intensive care following surgery to remove a tumour from his colon.

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott underwent successful ankle surgery on Tuesday, the teenager is expected to return before the end of the season.

 


Managerial Changes

Ghana have sacked their national team's head coach Charles 'CK' Akonnor and his two assistants, following their 1-0 defeat away to South Africa.

Former Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester City forward Craig Bellamy has left his role as Anderlecht assistant manager as he tries to deal with depression. The 42-year-old has struggled with the problem for most of his life and has decided to take time away from the game to deal with it.

 


Disciplinary Charges

Barrow are investigating after visiting Colchester United goalkeeper Shamal George was racially abused by their fans.

Mansfield Town will be without their skipper Stephen Quinn for 6 games following a red card against Harrogate Town on 4th September. Quinn received a 3 match ban for the foul which saw him sent off and a further 3-matches for an incident afterwards.

Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town have combined to condemn a video which appears to have been filmed by an Ipswich fan, in which he directs "discriminatory and hateful comments" towards Bolton forward Dapo Afolayan.

Chelsea have hit out after a video on social media showed one of their fans abusing Aston Villa midfielder with sectarian abuse. Chelsea said: "We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing an individual using abusive language of a sectarian nature in the crowd at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour totally unacceptable and we condemn the language used. The club is working to identify the person involved and will take the strongest possible action against them."

 


Rovers Reach Chile Agreement

Chile have reached an agreement with Blackburn Rovers to have striker Ben Brereton play in two of their three international games in October. Brereton missed out on the recent internationals due to his club refusing to release him over quarantine concerns. Now the 22-year-old will play the first two games before returning to England to enter quarantine, reducing the number of games he would be forced to miss for Rovers.
