Contracts

Manchester United's teenage winger Anthony Elanga has signed a new contract which will expire in 2026.

Inter Milan left-back Federico Dimarco has extended his deal until 2026.

Orlando City have given Brazilian right-back Ruan a new 2-year contract.

Transfers

Argentine centre-forward Julian Carranza has swapped Major League Soccer teams after he was sent on loan to Philadelphia Union from Inter Miami.

Heart of Midlothian have signed Nathaniel Atkinson from Melbourne City for an undisclosed fee.

Injury Round-Up

Pele has been discharged from hospital following treatment on a colon tumour.

Hull City boss Grant McCann will miss their Boxing Day fixture against Blackburn Rovers after testing positive for CV.

Defender Nathan Baker is ruled out for an undetermined amount of time after the Bristol City defender suffered concussion against Sheffield United on 28th November. It is the 30-year-old's second concussion this year, after only returning in October after a period on the sidelines with the same problem.

Managerial Changes

Celtic have appointed Michael Nicholson as permanent chief executive after he had filled in following Dominic McKay's resignation. Chris McKay has been promoted from finance director to chief financial officer.

Keith Downing has joined the coaching staff at Plymouth Argyle. Downing is probably best known for leading England Under-19s to the 2017 European Championship title.

Disciplinary Charges

Ryan Porteous of Hibernian has been charged by the SFA for his clash with Aberdeen forward Christian Ramirez. The 22-year-old defender avoided punishment for his clash and then went on to score the only goal of the game.

Pandemic Problems

A number of Premier League managers have complained about the meeting held on Thursday between managers and the Premier League to discuss issues around the pandemic. Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte was one of those that termed it a "waste of time". Conte said: "Yesterday it was a wall and for this reason I also prefer to not go into it. If I have to be honest, it was a meeting that we tried to speak and some coaches tried to speak, to ask about solutions but I think everything was decided. Because when you have a wall in front of you, you can speak and ask what you want but every decision was taken." Norwich City boss Dean Smith added his voice to the complaints: "We went into a meeting yesterday where the decisions had already been made, so I think we had already missed the boat in terms of decision making. They decided the season would continue as was and we have got to fulfil fixtures now, so we have to cope as best we can."

Meanwhile the Burnley v Everton game joined the casualty list for Boxing Day as it was called off due to CV and injuries hitting the Everton squad. Everton's intial application had been rejected on Thursday.

In Scotland Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor has questioned the decision to move forward the winter break. McGregor said: "I don't see why it didn't go on the way as planned. If there's a new variant in three months, four months, five months, which there probably will be, are we going to shut up shop again? We take all the precautions we possibly can. It's unfortunate that clubs have got players with Covid but it's going to happen. I think you just need to live with that."

St Mirren have asked for changes around the rules after nearly being forced to field nine teenagers against Celtic on Wednesday evening. Chairman John Needham stated: "On behalf of the board I want to record our disappointment at the situation we found ourselves in. We plan to write to the SPFL to highlight the difficulties we faced and our view of the need for change. We do not believe the rigid application of rules, agreed in a different set of circumstances, is appropriate or fair. I must thank Jim Goodwin and his staff for a heroic performance on the pitch and the professional way everyone handled last night in the face of such adversity."

Bidder Pulls Out Of Rams Takeover

American businessman Chris Kirchner has withdrawn his bid for English Championship club Derby County. Kirchner was one of three bids for the troubled Midlands side, who are currently in administration and sat rock bottom of the division after a number of points deductions for financial doping offences. Kirchner posted on social media: "It is with real sadness that I can confirm I am withdrawing from the process to buy Derby County Football Club. First and foremost, I would like to apologise to the fans. As you know, I've been in talks with the administrators for about two months. Two weeks ago, I made a formal offer to buy the club. I believe I presented a very detailed, generous and ambitious long-term sustainable business plan. It included purchasing the stadium, future funding and maintaining the academy's status. We improved that offer further today. I wanted to agree a deal that I thought was in the best interests of all parties but, unfortunately, the last 24 hours has proven that just isn't possible. So it is with deep regret that I must now stand aside and let the administrators pursue their own course." The administrators simply stated that other offers were higher for the Rams.
