Injury Round Up

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo was taken to hospital after suffering concussion in a league match against Celta de Vigo. The centre-back clashed heads with his team-mate Gavi and required lengthy on-pitch treatment before being taken away in an ambulance.

Managerial Changes

Watford have appointed Rob Edwards as their new manager for next season following the Hertfordshire club's relegation from the Premier League. Edwards has just left Forest Green Rovers after winning the League Two title with the Gloucestershire-based vegan club. Forest Green have hit out at both Watford and Edwards after finding out negotiations had been going on for some time behind their back. Their owner Dale Vince said: "It takes a bit of the shine off winning promotion. If there's any karma in football they'll languish in the Championship and we'll meet them there in a few years' time. He said he'd been advised by Watford and his agent to keep it a secret from Forest Green which I think is pretty poor from them. It's poor from Rob and he knows it. I thought I knew him better as a person."

Disciplinary Charges

OGC Nice have hit out at their own fans after a section of them chanted about their former player Emiliano Sala, who died in the midst of a transfer to Cardiff City when his plane went down over the English Channel. Nice fans were heard chanting "he's an Argentine who can't swim well" about their opponent's Nantes' former hero. Nice condemned the chant "in the strongest possible sense". Nice's head coach Christophe Galtier said: "I have no words to describe what we heard. We hear many things in a football stadium. But that - where do insults of a dead footballer come from? If that's our society, we're in trouble."

FIFA are investigating claims from Chile that Ecuador fielded an ineligible player in World Cup qualifying. There have been longstanding allegations that 23-year-old Byron Castillo is actually 26 and a Colombian who does not qualify to play for Ecuador and used a fake birth certificate to register as an Ecuadorian. If found to be true, Ecuador would have to forfeit the World Cup place they had secured for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
