Veteran goalkeeper David Stockdale has signed for Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer from Wycombe Wanderers.

Accrington Stanley have signed Matt Lowe from Brackley Town.

Grimsby Town have signed Niall Maher on a free transfer from Halifax Town.

Real Sociedad have signed teenage forward Mohamed-Ali Cho from SCO Angers for an initial fee of 11m euros rising to 15m if the clauses are triggered. That makes the former Everton and PSG youngster Sociedad's record signing.

The agent for former Stoke City player Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has rubbished reports that he wanted to leave Bayern Munich this summer. Roger Wittmann was asked about the reports that Choupo-Moting was set to join the Qatari Stars League and stated outright that he would be staying at Bayern.

Barcelona's Economic VP Eduard Romeu has confirmed in an interview with Marca that the technical staff at the club had requested the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and that they need to raise funds to do so.

1. FC Heidenheim have signed Jan-Niklas Beste from Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee.

Falko Michel has signed for Borussia Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart.

Timo Baumgartl will stay on loan at Union Berlin from PSV Eindhoven next season. The defender's season ended early due to the discovery of a tumour which required surgery.

Bologna's Marco Di Vaio has admitted they may have to sell Aaron Hickey to finance new signings.

Barcelona have signed Pablo Torre from Racing Santander. The teenager will cost an initial 5m euros with add ons which could cost another 15m euros.

Injury Round Up

Atalanta's young keeper Marco Carnesecchi has undergone shoulder surgery which will rule him out for 4 months.

Managerial Changes

Despite looking like he was on the way to Croatia to take charge of Rijeka after being given permission to speak to them last week, Tam Courts has been appointed as new head coach of Budapest Honved. Courts, who left Dundee United to take up the job, opted for the Hungarians who finished just 10th of 12 teams in Hungary's top flight last season.

Namibia have appointed Collin Benjamin as the new head coach of their national team. Benjamin captained the country as a player, spending 10 years at Hamburg, before a move to 1860 Munich, where he joined the coaching set-up when he hung up his boots.

Barnsley have confirmed the appointment of Michael Duff as their new boss following him quitting the job as Cheltenham Town manager.

Juventus have pushed both their under-23 and under-19 head coaches out of the door. Lamberto Zauli had been working with the Under-23 team at Juve for the last 3 years, with Andrea Bonatti's involvement in their Under-19 side also lasting around 3 years.

Atletico Madrid have added Gustavo Lopez to their coaching staff. Lopez was working as an analyst on Spanish TV with Movistar+ and la Ser.

Aston Villa have recruited Blackburn Rovers' head of coaching Tony Carss to be their new under-23s boss. He will replace Mark Delaney, who left last month. Gerrard Nash has arrived from the FA of Ireland and Adam Atay from Ipswich Town to join the Under-18s coaching staff at Villa.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have promoted Jon Hunter-Barrett to the role of Academy Manager while Laura Nicholls is to take over as Head of Academy Operations at Molineux. They had taken up the role at the beginning of 2021 but Technical Director Scott Sellars had still officially been Academy Manager until now, when the remits were officially handed over.

Disciplinary Charges

After a number of clubs used loopholes to get matches called off last season for covid-related reasons, including, memorably, Arsenal with just one positive test, the Premier League has made it more difficult for their teams to get postponements. Now clubs must present "truly exceptional" reasons to have postponements granted after last season being badly disrupted by many postponements. A Premier League statement read: "Applications will only be granted where the impact of player unavailability on a club's squad is truly exceptional and where the club concerned has taken all reasonable steps available to avoid the necessity to make the application."

Following Barcelona's club president Joan Laporta's whines about "state-owned clubs" yesterday, La Liga itself has now followed up with a complaint to UEFA about Financial Fair Play breaches by Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. A La Liga statement explained: "La Liga understands that the irregular financing of these clubs is carried out, either through direct money injections or through sponsorship and other contracts that do not correspond to market conditions or make economic sense. La Liga considers that these practices alter the ecosystem and the sustainability of football, harm all European clubs and leagues, and only serve to artificially inflate the market, with money not generated in football itself." They would have a point, if they included Barcelona and Real Madrid in the complaint, as both are guilty of exactly these same offences. Clearly just a case of sour grapes after the league saw Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe snub moves to play for City and PSG instead. The news that Man City's City Football Group are in talks to buy an 11th team, in the shape of Italy's Palermo, will probably not go down well in Javier Tebas' household!

Rangers have been removed from participation in the Cinch sponsorship of the SPFL. They had taken it to court citing an agreement with rival brand, owned by the club's chairman Douglas Park, Park's of Hamilton.

15 men, aged between 18 and 36, have denied attacking a coachload of Bradford City supporters on their way home following their team's 3-1 win over Swindon Town at the County Ground. There were violent scenes after the match but the group have all denied charges of using or threatening unlawful violence. They have all been given conditional bail ahead of a trial which will begin on 15th July in Swindon Crown Court.

MP Asks Govt To Block Sale Of Brum

A local MP in Birmingham has called upon the government to block a takeover of Birmingham City by former Watford owner Laurence Bassini. Birmingham recently confirmed that its largest shareholder, Vong Pech, has sold his 21.64% stake, but did not name the buyer/s. However, Bassini has gone public with his intent to buy Birmingham and confidence that a deal is in the offing. Bassini has been declared bankrupt twice and also served a 3-year ban from football over his financial mismanagement. The Labour MP for Ladywood, Shabana Mahmood said: "I am disappointed to read this week that Laurence Bassini is close to sealing a deal to purchase Birmingham City Football Club. For years, Blues fans have watched with devastation as financial and professional mismanagement has driven their beloved club to the brink. After meeting with top officials at the club and fans this year, I was hopeful that the club might turn a corner. Bassini has a history of bankruptcy, failed takeover bids, and legal action against struggling clubs. His track record is exactly the reason why football needs a strong regulator and a more robust process to decide who can be a club owner or director. If the government really wanted to make good on its promise to put football fans first they would step in and stop this deal from happening." Surely if he is allowed to become owner it would call into question the fit and proper owners' test?

Perez Finds The Grapes Too Sour Also

Despite Real Madrid's recent Champions League win, it seems Florentino Perez is still unhappy over Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe's decision to stay with PSG. In an interview Perez claimed that Mbappe was under pressure from the French and Qatari government to stay and that he did not want him anyway now as he was not that good. Perez told El Chiringuito: "Political pressures, money and his new position inside the club made Mbappe change his mind. I prefer Mbappe to stay at PSG because this isn't the Mbappe I know. I don't want him now. A player I wanted to sign and didn't come? I don't remember, because all the ones I wanted, I have signed. The good, good ones have signed. He revealed his dream to play at Real Madrid. And it's true. Last August PSG didn't want to sell. We waited a year and he kept saying the same thing. Fifteen days before the situation changed because of the political pressure and the economic factor. He did what he thought was easiest. He changed. There's no need to go over it again. As a result of the pressure he had to change his dreams... he's very young, the pressure affects us all but the young people more. It didn't make sense that the President of the Republic [Emmanuel Macron] was calling him... the mayor of Paris, that you don't leave.... That in France. And then in Qatar they offer you some things that drive you a little crazy, they offer you a disproportionate influence in the sporting aspect for a player..." Perez was hinting that Mbappe was behind the sacking of Leonardo and replacement with Luis Campos, as Mbappe and Leonardo were not on good terms. He then went on to claim Madrid had no interest in Erling Haaland, who moved to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund this summer, because they had Karim Benzema: Erling Haaland's signing wasn't linked to Mbappé, we already had Benzema so it didn't make sense." One thing Perez was at pains to set straight was the media depiction of Mbappe's mother, who was portrayed as a self-interested money-grabber who helped persuade her son to stay in France. Instead Perez has said that Mbappe's mother wanted him to make the move to Madrid, to fulfil his childhood dream of playing for them.

In a side note on Mbappe, he has just signed to be represented by WME Sports, along with his newly launched production company, Zebra Valley. The production company is to be based in Los Angeles and to focus on multicultural content, including animation, music, art, technology and gaming. WME Sports is the sports arm of Hollywood talent agency WME.

Lens In Blood Donation Awareness Drive

Ligue 1 side Racing Lens put the players blood groups on their shirts in order to raise awareness of the need for more blood donations in France. Blood donation in France has been decreasing year on year, with an estimated 500 more donations a day needed to meet the nation's needs. France is estimated to have just 70,000 blood bags in reserve in a country that needs 10,000 a day to treat patients. Lens were the perfect club to use as their motto is Sang et Or (Blood and Gold) and they also modified the club's motto on the shirts during the campaign to read "Notre Sang est Or" (Our Blood is Gold).
