Football News: Options For Manchester United's Next Manager

With Potter apparently packing for Amsterdam and Southgate surely a non-option, it seems Manchester United are left with 3 options - Zinedine Zidane, Ruben Amorim or Erik ten Hag staying.

According to the oracle that is idek2346, Zidane is pretty much a done deal. I personally think that's BS, but we shall see. I think Zidane would be the wrong option and I'd be gobsmacked if the INEOS team decide he's the right fit.

A. He likes to bring in the big names for big money, we do not need any Galacticos.

B. He's allegedly a rather difficult character to work with who has absolutely no interest in adapting to a role, instead expecting his employers to fit into his puzzle.

While he does bring an ethos and a resume, he also brings a complicated ego that, imo, simply will not fit the INEOS model. As much as idek2346 is convinced it'll be Zidane, I 100% believe it will not be - to the point that I'd rather ten Hag stayed. Zidane - absolutely not, no thank you, keep him away.

Now, next up - Amorim. I like this coach, I really do. I wanted United to get him before ten Hag arrived. Amorim likes a team, not a group of individual stars with egos running the show. No, he likes a team.

He has a tidy and consistent manner of establishing authority over his players - if you put in the work, you have an argument, but if you hide or shirk, you have nothing. That's management 101, something that so many top-level football managers are afraid of applying - but they then decide the limits of their own potential.

Amorim likes 3 at the back which, if the mooted interest in Frimpong is legit, would be a fit. Amorim is a student of the game, a nerd, and would thrive in the Premier League because his understanding of systems and tactics is fluid. I'm sure he's a massive fan of Pep Guardiola and the effortlessly fluid system he works with and his ability to adapt so quickly to developing pressures on the pitch. Amorim will become a legend at the right club, do we fit his trajectory?

Finally, Erik ten Hag. With the ever-reducing number of options available this summer, ten Hag's prospects of remaining grow. I mean, just imagine the dream team of Messrs Southgate and McLaren - ????.

I like ten Hag as a person and sincerely wish him well, but the last few weeks have given my pensive doubts greater volume and I'm now of the opinion that he's out of his depth.

Obviously, in the grand scheme of things, my opinion is of no value, but I know what I'm seeing and, irrespective of all the many external pressures, he's making some dire decisions when the heat's on.

Ten Hag is, for me, not the guy, but to be fair, as this much-vaunted managerial merry-go-round seems to be losing so many figures, he might yet be given a stay, albeit for a season under the new regime to see how he does.

So, for me, it's Amorim all day. If not, I'd rather stick than twist for Zidane who, irrespective of what is written by idek2346 or anyone else, would absolutely not fit the suggested new regime and will almost certainly not come to Old Trafford.

I'll be clear, if Zidane comes, then all that is written about Sir Jim Ratcliffe's vision is bull and the club will simply continue looking for the paddle while peeking out from between its fingers at what thrives on dry land - it's that simple for me.

To paraphrase the great Jim from The Vicar of Dibley - Zidane, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, hell no.
