Football News: Southampton FC Players Overview
Think this could be one the most important summers in the Southampton FC's history. A lot of players will be leaving, some I'll be happy to see the back of, others I'll be slightly more disappointed to see leave. We're probably due to have at least 12 players leave excluding all current loan players. I think there's a few positions we don't need to replace.
Ramsdale leaving just paves Bazunu's way back into the team. He may not be the best, but I think we could do with spending some money elsewhere. RB is a must, Bree has never really excited me since he joined and Kyle Walker-Peters if off and best of luck to him, he's been fantastic since he came in. Sugawara can't wait to leave so best of luck in Turkey to him. Would love to see someone like Zanotti from Lugano.
CBs - I do think Bednarek will leave and again fair play to him for coming back after his abysmal loan at Aston Villa and winning the fans back over. I think Harwood-Bellis will be snapped up by a Premier League (PL) club, personally don't think he's fully PL quality, but he's just above the championship.
Stephens is too hotheaded and emotional of a player, never really rated him and think we need to build a brand new partnership that could potentially stay together if we do get back up as Stephens just isn't PL quality.
Armel Bella-Kotchap looked to be the next Van Dijk but ended up being the next Vegard Forren unfortunately, think it's best if he moved on.
Wood looks okay, good backup, but he's not going to cut it in the PL if we're serious about building a squad to get promoted.
Taylor leaves, think we should probably move Manning on too, hasn't been able to replicate his Swansea form and he's just not good enough at keeping possession.
Wellington would be a good Championship (Champ) LB imo. Would love to see us bring in someone young to compete with him like Kosugi from Djurgårdens IF or Seys from Club Brugge.
Midfielders: Can't work out whether Downes stays or goes. Part of me thinks maybe he thinks he's better than us now and wants a move, but never really proved it at West Ham United or with us this season. Would keep if he was happy to stay.
Shea Charles comes back from Sheffield Wednesday and speaking to a Wednesday fan, I know he said that he's been fantastic for them but has been playing higher up the field, thank god they realised he wasn't a CB or even a defensive mid so could potentially be a good asset from a rotation perspective.
Smallbone - great in the Champ, but again would like to see us bring someone in who could replicate it in the PL, easier said than done I know.
Aribo goes this summer, again best of luck in Turkey. Fernandes what a boy, what a player, wherever he ends up (as long as it's not Liverpool) best of luck to him as he's been one of the very few enjoyable things about this season.
Grønbæk to return back to Stade Rennais, just never really worked out. Ugochukwu back to Chelsea, thank you for the hard work, but probably won't want to drop down for another loan with us next season.
Dibling, again another one of the only pluses we've had to look forward to this season, would love to see him at a team he'll get the game time he needs to help him progress as a player. Would hate to see him on the bench at Manchester United or Spurs.
Shame Villa are so good nowadays as I really see him being like a Jack Grealish Villa player going forward, so hopefully he takes his time and picks the right club as he really could go right to the very top.
That leads me onto our absolute astounding attacking options we've had the pleasure of watching this season. Big Paul Onuachu, good bloke, get some cash for him and let him go. Sulemana, really wanted him to be the next Mane, was more of a Djenepo and he's still getting worse, sell.
Archer, it's a shame Villa don't have a buyback clause for him so they can buy him back and sell him to one of this years promoted teams. Stewart, should change his name to Steward as he's mainly watching from the stands and doing absolutely nothing, sell.
Adam Armstrong - not sure what his contract situation is like, if he'll want to come back after this season, but could be a useful asset if he ends up staying.
Ben Brereton Díaz can go for free and I'll drive him to the airport, waste of £7m. Would love to see some proper strikers come in, Franculino Djú from FC Midtjylland, Tolu Arokodare from Genk and Franjo Ivanović from RUSG would all be dream signings, but again don't think we'd be able to get them, unfortunately.
Would love to see us try and sign someone to be the new Dušan Tadić, don't think we've ever replaced Tadic and it really shows. The lack of creativity from our midfield for a few years now hurts us and it's hard to watch at times. Alvyn Sanches from Lausanne-Sport or Jakob Breum from Go Ahead Eagles again would be phenomenal signings, but think we'd just be too far down the list in terms of suiters for them. Few other players I really like the look of that if we could get would be amazing additions for this coming season:
Diomande - Rangers
Ordonez - Brugge
Baah - Genk
Igamane - Rangers
Inoussa - Hacken
Miller - Motherwell
Milambo - Feyenoord (0% chance I know)
Leo Sauer - Feyenoord (was on loan at NAC this season was a different class)
Just would love to see us make a few statement signings and maybe bring in a few that have been left out this season like Ronnie Edwards and Bazunu.
