Football News: Nobody Knows How Rangers Will Do Under Russell Martin

Good Morning, I am not a regular poster on rangersrumours.co.uk at all but an avid reader. I just wanted to possibly share my own opinion on the Russell Martin (RM) appointment as Rangers manager.

Was he my first choice? No, absolutely not. Not even in my top 5. Do I believe he was the clubs first choice, no absolutely not. I was personally swaying towards Davide Ancelotti in recent weeks but the more I think about it, I was more attracted to the fact his Dad would only ever be one call away and the possible prospect of the potential to get some exciting youngsters through the door from some of the biggest clubs in Europe, maybe. The fact he already has a decent fall back job in assistant manager of Brazil to fall back on to at the drop of a hat if things weren't going well also didn't sit right.

A lot has been said on here about RM's teams conceding easy goals and neither being able to score from or being able to defend corners. Most football clubs these days operate with specialist defence and set piece coaches so can these issues solely be blamed on RM? If the rumours being mentioned on here are true and he isn't bringing his full back room staff as the club is sourcing them for him to work with then surely there is a chance these previous issues could be rectified going forward?

At the end of the day, do I really care who is at the helm and what his political, religious or dietary beliefs are as long as we get results and win trophies? No not really. I am a Rangers Football Club supporter and as long as we are winning football matches that's all that matters to me.

Will we be back on here early next year discussing who the next manager is going to be? Possibly. We could also be on here talking about how far ahead we are in the league and who we are next playing in Europe. Only time will tell.

It's a shame many are writing him off already when he isn't even officially in the door and already stating the owners have made a mistake. Nobody knows that, every head coach appointment is a gamble and we are just going to have to wait and see how it goes. We have to make sure the player recruitment goes right to give him the best chance.
