Football News: My Take On Russell Martin As Rangers Manager

My Take On Russell Martin As Rangers Manager

I know not everyone is sold yet, but I genuinely think Russell Martin could be a great appointment for Rangers, and here's why

Firstly, his footballing philosophy is clear-he wants his teams to dominate possession, play progressive, front-foot football, and build from the back with purpose. It's a modern style that, when executed well, suits Rangers perfectly-especially in domestic games where we're expected to control the tempo and break teams down.

His work at Swansea and Southampton showed that he's committed to a clear identity. At Saints, despite a rocky start, he turned things around and built a side that played with confidence, structure, and a real attacking threat. He also developed young players and improved what he had, which is crucial given we won't outspend everyone-we need a manager who can coach, not just buy.

Secondly, Martin is calm, articulate, and thoughtful. He has the right temperament to handle pressure and scrutiny something you need at Ibrox. He speaks well, motivates his players, and doesn't shy away from accountability. There's a quiet authority about him, which might be exactly what we need right now.

Finally, he understands the expectations. He knows that at a club like Rangers, winning is everything. He's shown ambition throughout his managerial career, and this would be the biggest step yet-but that challenge might bring the best out of him.

No manager is a guaranteed success, but in Russell Martin, we'd be getting a progressive coach with a clear vision, a track record of improving players, and the hunger to succeed at the top level. I think he could surprise a lot of people in a good way.
