Football News: Current Thoughts On Glasgow Rangers

Current Thoughts On Glasgow Rangers

Long time reader first time caller - but given the current animosity in the stands, I feel now is the time to throw my thoughts into the mix. Reading through the work history of Glasgow Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart - his last post prior to our own was as CEO at Manchester United and in his own words (on his LinkedIn) was to help in INEOS transition of ownership and assure consistency in BAU operations, which sounds pretty appropriate to where we currently stand.

With that said, why are the Union Bears calling for his head? Is it purely at the appointment of Martin and subsequent refusal to remove him? (I agree he is not the man for the job and should be sacked when we have identified an appropriate replacement ASAP) or is there something I have missed? As I don't agree we should chop our CEO who has experience in this very situation that I'm sure few do within football.

I'm also not convinced with the level on input Stewart would have had in the process of appointment (having worked a fair few CEO's myself 😅) and suspect he trusted those executing the process, specifically Thelwell, despite Stewart's name being on the check so to speak.

Again I agree we made the wrong appointment, the football we are currently playing is truly awful and I do not think Martin is the correct manager (he's also not helping himself by his refusal to admit something might be wrong with the tactics which irritates the life out of me every press conference) my concern is that we are creating an impossibly hostile environment and lashing out at everyone and anyone associated with this decision, I would have lost every job I ever had if I was fired for the actions of someone I hired with best intentions.

I want to gauge other fans thoughts on this - should we calm the anger towards Stewart, Purdy and Thelwell and accept they made a mistake (and are attempting to stick by it as I'm sure majority of us would in a major decision in a new role) or continue to create huge division and a toxic environment until we fire 3 highly experienced football businessmen with the long term ambition of replacing with more 'capable' individuals?

Lastly. I've always been a fan of the support the team for 90 minutes and show your opinion after the fact - we as fans and specifically those chanting 'Martin GTF' after 20 minutes, booing Dowel, booing Rothwell - need to take a deep reflection on what they are adding as fans, this is not how Rangers should be acting, we are known for our class and 'staunchness' as much as a cliche as that is, and I want us to get back to that. I encourage those booing our own players as soon as they step on the pitch to consider the detriment they are having on the team as much as those they deem unworthy to represent us both on the board and on the pitch.
