Football News: Wolverhampton Wanderers Player Ratings v Chelsea
Having read some of the posts on wolvesrumours.co.uk, I fear it is perhaps easy to get carried away with the "comeback". However, although this may annoy DMAC it was pretty much only against a seemingly disinterested Chelsea youth team /reserves.
The game was a Curate's egg. A truly terrible first half - even this however had patches / glimpses of quality - followed by a better second half when 3 goals were scored and several other very good chances were missed.
The first and 3rd goals were almost identical defensive catastrophes, with Sa playing balls into players coming back towards the goal who had neither the skill nor the strength to take the ball. Consequently, the ball was lost and the Chelsea player was left unmarked - why - to knock the ball past a seemingly less than motivated Sa.
All in all it was an awful loss from a game that could and should have been won against a really poor Chelsea side who really did not give a monkeys! Very worried that I have a ticket for the league game next week at Stamford Bridge against their first team, who will be trying! That could be really embarrassing!
Ratings:
Sa 2 - for both the first and 4th he made feeble efforts to stop shots from long range albeit the last was a spectacular hit. Did not cover himself in glory for the 2nd and 3rd either!
Doherty 4 - not on for long but struggled against the pace and skill of the Chelsea left wing.
Jackson 5 - did ok going forward but in the first half was part of a bit of a shambolic effort on the Wolves right.
Yerson 4 - I thought he was going to be good this season and was disappointed when he wasn't playing due to yet another injury. However he looked lost today in the first half and was nowhere to be seen when they scored the first 3 goals effectively down his channel.
Toti 5 - despite conceding 4 the defence was not that awful, (other than I suppose being largely absent for 3 goals!), and he looked no worse than he normally does - albeit that is a low bar!
Emmanuel 6 - seemed to be playing in front of the back line and had a solid evening. Wolves desperately need him back to his best!
Wolfe 7 - He was left unmarked for virtually the entire second half and scored 2 goals. Did ok going forwards in the first half as well but hard to work out if this was a good performance or simply Chelsea's right back, (did they have one?), being abysmal.
Lopez 3 - Terrible touch for the 3rd goal. Not enough about him to see why Wolverhampton Wanderers bought him let alone for the huge sum they did! Hooked at half time and quite rightly.
Gomes 7 - Works hard and is a class above most of his colleagues - must be wondering what he did wrong to end up here chasing shadows whilst less talented colleagues simply don't work hard enough!
Hwang 3 - Apart from committing a series of fouls and getting booked did little. Given how he has played in the past he can't be anywhere near as bad as he is currently playing but this merely begs the question why is he playing.
Tolu 6 - surprisingly quick and tried hard. Scored with a good finish, but missed a sitter from a free header and could/should have had more than 1. Not sure why he was taken off.
Subs:
Rodrigo 3 - Came and went within the first half.
Munetsi 5 - Put himself about but like Tolu and several others he lacks the quality needed in the Premier League.
Krejci 6 - A class act amongst the carnage.
Larsen 4 - Looks to have lost the small amount of pace he had - should have scored 2, (albeit one was subsequently deemed to be offside), but got 0 and doesn't look as if he is half the player he was last year and certainly not as engaged / hungry as Tolu.
Bellegarde 5 - had little time to impact the game.
Manager 4 - Strange starting line up and his team were a shambles defensively in the first half against a mix and match Chelsea team that really never bothered to get out of first gear. Second half resorted to knocking it long and battling like a lower league team - as they will soon be - against a superior side. Note I say once more a mix and match Chelsea side that couldn't / didn't need to be bothered!
The referee was weak and yet booked numerous players. Embarrassing how he allowed Delap to commit two red card offences and a yellow before he sent him off.
