Welsh international former Celtic right-back Adam Matthews has signed a new 1-year contract with Charlton Athletic.

Wycombe Wanderers' veteran record goalscorer Adebayo Akinfenwa has signed a 1-year deal.

Atletico Madrid have extended head coach Diego Simeone's contract by 2 years to end in 2024.

Defender Harvey Rodgers has signed a new 2-year contract with Accrington Stanley.

Bradley Barry has joined Stevenage on a free transfer from Barrow.

Zak Mills has joined Walsall following his release from Port Vale.

Celta de Vigo have signed veteran Argentine goalkeeper Matias Dituro on loan from CD Universidad Catolica in Chile.

1.FSV Mainz 05 have signed Jae-sung Lee from Holstein Kiel on a free transfer.

In the Indian Super League ATK Mohun Bagan have paid £203,000 for Hugo Boumous from Mumbai City.

KAA Gent have received £6.3m for German midfielder Niklas Dorsch from Augsburg.

Former Liverpool man Mikel San Jose has signed for Amorebieta on a free transfer from Birmingham City.

Olympique Marseille have taken Pau Lopez on loan from AS Roma.

Sandro Tonali has joined AC Milan for a fee of £6.21m from Brescia.

Hertha Berlin have loaned Jessic Ngankam to Greuther Furth.

Al-Ettifaq have signed Robin Quiason on a free transfer from Mainz.

Former Manchester United player Angelo Henriquez has signed for Fortaleza on a free transfer from Universidad de Chile.

Villareal have paid £3.6m for Manu Morlanes from Almeria.

Newcastle United Jets of the Aussie A-League have signed Jordan Elsey from Adelaide United.

Also moving within the A-League on a free transfer is Ulises Davila, who has joined MacArthur from Wellington Phoenix.

Watford have signed Peter Etebo on loan from Stoke City, Joshua King on a free transfer from Everton and Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude, also on a free tranfer.

Ryan Ait-Nouri's loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers from Angers has been made into a permanent deal for £10m.

Arsenal have paid £8m for Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares.

Alaves have taken Ivan Martin on loan from Villareal. Also leaving Villareal on loan is Xavi Quintilla, who has joined Leganes.

Bayer Leverkusen have signed Andrey Lunev on a free transfer from Zenit St-Petersburg.

Getafe have paid £4.5m from Carles Alena from Barcelona.

Cagliari goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has joined fellow Serie A side Empoli on loan.

SM Caen have signed Franklin Wadja from Ligue 1 side Lorient.

Hellas Verona have paid a loan fee of £900,000 for Royal Antwerp midfielder Martin Hongla.

Eibar have signed Franchu on a free transfer from Real Madrid.

Luca Mazzitelli has signed for Monza from Sassuolo.

Manu Garcia has joined Alaves on loan from Sporting Gijon.

Watford have sent Juergen Elitim to Deportivo La Coruna on loan.

Ruben Vinagre has joined Sporting Club de Portugal on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Torino have paid just over £1m for Magnus Warming from Lyngby BK.

Real Madrid have loaned young goalkeeper Diego Altube to Fuenlabrada.

Barcelona have paid a loan fee of £450,000 for teenage Austrian midfielder Yusuf Demir from Rapid Vienna.

Teenage winger Filip Stevanovic has joined Heerenveen on loan from Manchester City.

Managerial Changes

Rochdale have appointed former Middlesbrough midfielder Robbie Stockdale as their new manager. This is his first permanent shot at management, having had three spells in caretaker charge at Sunderland.

Doncaster Rovers' caretaker player/manager Andy Butler has left the club to continue his playing career with non-league Boston.

 


Disciplinary Charges

The English Football League has placed 8 clubs under a transfer embargo. The octet are Derby County, Reading, Hull City, Fleetwood Town, Gillingham, Swindon Town, Oldham Athletic and Scunthorpe United.

The English Football Association has been hit with three charges by UEFA. They are for the use of a laser pointer by supporters, as a green one was used to attempt to distract Denmark keeper Kasper Schmeichel when England had a penalty. The second charge is for disturbance by England supporters during the national anthem of Denmark. And finally they are charged with lighting of fireworks by supporters. England were found guilty of all three charges and fined 30,000 euros.

Derby County (despite this being a pattern of repeat offences of trying to cheat FFP regulations) and Sheffield Wednesday have escaped an immediate points deduction. Derby have a suspended 3-points penalty and Wednesday have a suspended 6-points penalty.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is facing a second allegation of inappropriate messages to a teenage girl, following his sending home from Celtic's training camp while an initial allegation of inappropriate behaviour was investigated.

Hungary has been fined 100,000euros and ordered to play their next two UEFA competition matches at home behind closed doors, with a third closed door game suspended for two years. Hungary were found guilty of discriminatory behaviour by their supporters during their three Euro 2020 group matches.

 


Mothers Raise Money

Motherwell fans have raised £58,155, which will be matched by the club, to buy season tickets for unemployed and low-income families for this season. Every supporter who bought a season ticket for last season was given a free renewal for this season but were also given an option to donate to the fund. The money is enough to buy around 700 season tickets. The North Lanarkshire are that Motherwell are based in has seen unemployment rise by 71% since the pandemic began.

Arsenal have become the third Premier League side to be the subject of Amazon's documentary series 'All or Nothing'. Manchester City were the first and Tottenham Hotspur the second and now Arsenal have followed in their footsteps to allow cameras behind the scenes.
