Injury Round-Up

Managerial Changes

Disciplinary Charges

Romelu Lukaku has returned to the Chelsea squad after publicly apologising for comments he made in an interview that was recorded nearly a month previously.

Arsenal have been charged by the Football Association with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion during their defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

Sierra Leone's head coach John Keister has revealed that he received two death threats over his AFCON squad. Keister was being threatened to include certain players the day before he announced his 28-man squad. Keister told the BBC: "I think it's very, very sad that it has to come to this. Whatever walk of life you are in, nobody deserves that. I don't think it should get to that point where my life is being threatened because people feel players should be in - and if they are not, this is what they are going to do."

Bolton Wanderers forward Dion Charles has apologised for old social media posts containing "discriminatory and deeply offensive words", stating that he is "not racist or homophobic".

Pandemic Problems

The first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final between Arsenal and Liverpool has been postponed due to a CV outbreak at Liverpool.

The Confederation of African Football have capped attendances at the AFCON to 80% of capacity for games involving the hosts Cameroon and 60% for the other matches at the tournament. Spectators must also be fully vaccinated and present a negative test result in order to be allowed entry to the stadiums.

Soton Takeover

Premier League club Southampton have been bought by a company called Sport Republic, which is backed by Serbian media magnate Dragan Solak. Sport Republic have bought Gao Jisheng's 80% stake in the club. Southampton CEO Martin Semmens said: "It is a pivotal moment in time. We have reorganised our plan and set out our path and Sport Republic were the right group to take that forward as they have the same values and beliefs as us. It's a bit like being on a dating process and we had to make sure we chose the right partner. Sometimes you need to go on a lot of dates to find the right partner and I think we have done that now. There is a lot of wealth and rich people on the market and it can be unsettling. There are also lots of people who want to get involved in football but don't have the right resources. First and foremost, we were looking for good people and experienced investors - and we have found that." Solak has stated that the Saints will be the "cornerstone" of his organisation.
