Football News: Will Kevin Thelwell Sort Out Rangers' Scouting?

Someone suggested a loan for Miovski, who I think would be a fantastic signing for Glasgow Rangers. Anyway, it got me thinking and I can remember thinking at the time about how Aberdeen managed to find him. I think they paid around 500k for him and then around 250k for Lewis Ferguson.

I know some people might disagree with me, but I think our scouting and recruitment has been a major issue at our club for quite some time because these types of players should have been snatched from the rest of the SPL clubs.

And before anyone says that these clubs won't do business with us or will demand inflated fees, just go and have a look at how much money we have spent on players over the last few years, its a staggering - nearly £50 million. Now that's just transfer fees, god knows what we have spent on agent fees, wages, bonuses etc. You get the picture. What have we won? It's fair to say that we have gone from one disaster to another season after season.

Manager after manager failing, player after player failing. Something is inherently wrong within the club and I do think it's how we scout and recruit players. Now we paid a fortune for Lammers, Dessers, Yilmaz, Danilo, Ben Davies, Diomande, Cifuentes, Cortes and plenty of others. We are willing to pay big fees, so how and why did we identify these players and decide to sign these players instead of offering Aberdeen the same big fees for proven talent in our league?

When I was growing up, Rangers snatched the best talent from the rest of the SPL and it was a winning formula. I could give plenty of examples. So why have we changed? Is it snobbery from within our scouting department, or are we looking in all the wrong places? I think we are looking in all the wrong places. I think we should be looking more at our own league.

I'm going to give some examples, now I'm not saying our players are bad, I'm just saying I think the alternatives are better:

1. Diomande (£4m) or Lennon Miller?

2. Dessers (£5m) or Bojan Miovski?

3. Danilo (£5m) or Lewis Ferguson?

Feel free to disagree with me, but I think Motherwell and Aberdeen would do business with us if we offered the same fees as we paid for Dessers, Dio and Danilo. I think we would be in a much better position as we would have proven talent that can play in our league instead of a rebuild every summer because in my opinion we are not doing our scouting properly. Hopefully Kevin Thelwell will sort our scouting out and get back to basics.
