Football News: Reasons For Steven Gerrard Returning As Rangers Manager

Whilst I completely understand why people would be against Steven Gerrard returning as Glasgow Rangers manager, I find myself hoping that he does. Here's my reasons why:

For a long time I think our downfall has been that new managers (and players) have a tough time adapting to Scottish football. It takes managers time to get to grips with it, which is I why I'd like someone with experience and knowledge of the Scottish game. However, there aren't many managers that tick that box and are good tactically. In my view Gerrard brings both and would be in a better position than most to hit the ground running.

Since we returned to the top flight, the team has improved most under Gerrard. I think he got the best out of a lot of players (Goldson, Tav, Jack, Kamara, Aribo, Kent etc.) and it doesn't surprise me that when he left, we've gone backwards both in terms of signings and getting the best out of our players.

I don't buy the 1 trophy in 9 stat. Are we seriously saying that Gerrard should have been competing for those titles at that point in time? Anyone remember the season before he came in and how bad we were?

He gets the pressure of a big club and understands the demand from fans. I don't think any manager since him has. He has a leadership mentality and whilst not everyone might like him, I think he can drive a squad of players on.

Since we returned to the top flight, the football I've enjoyed watching most has been under Gerrard. I'm sick of going to watch us and not enjoying how we play. GvB was boring, Michael Beale was clueless, Philippe Clement was lump it forward as fast as you can, but with no structure. Gerrard had me excited to watch the team.

The last thing I want just now is another manager that comes in and gets caught in the headlight of the Scottish game. We're potentially going to have 3 plastic pitches next season. I really think someone who can come in and pick up from where they left off is vital.
