Football News: Liverpool FC Players Discussion
Following on from an earlier post and a chance to view some of the squad players during the closing stages, I believe there are a few key positions to address and to open up for discussion, purely based on recent names that have been mentioned:
DEFENCE (ignoring the keepers and TAA)
TSIMIKAS - we need an upgrade and challenge/ take the LB slot
QUANSAH - really don't think he'll make the grade. Never feel confident with him in the side tbh
INCOMING: FRIMPONG (looks done), maybe KERKEZ and HATO too?
If we can only afford 1, then maybe HATO due to his flexibility across LB/ CB?
CURVE BALL: KONATE. Undoubtedly a decent defender and has been immense most of the season, but there are times when he's easily muscled off the ball and does tend to "jog" when covering and that's when you need your CB to be a bit more assertive. If he doesn't extend, then I'd sell rather than leave on a free next season. Not sure on replacement, but not convinced GUEHI is the answer. Maybe HATO at CB and bring in KERKEZ at LB?
MIDFIELD
Although I would love to see a new DM come in, if we're short of money, then I think we'll be okay. Not ideal, but not the area that needs the MOST changes IMO. If we do bring someone in, WHARTON has been mentioned. Haven't watched much of him tbh, but very expensive and didn't really do much in the FA Cup Final to impress IMO. (but also appreciate watching 1 match and clips on MOTD isn't a great scouting report lol, but was expecting a bit more from all the hype I've read) .
I think ELLIOTT will be sacrificed, so need a new AM.
Obviously the noise is around WIRTZ, but not sure we can afford this outlay with other KEY areas that need changing, so maybe a cheaper alternative like CHERKI? (haven't seen much of the lad tbh, but the little I've seen seems pretty average. unless the EDs or other readers have a more in-depth opinion? ) . EZE has been mentioned too and watching him in the FA Cup Final, doesn't work hard enough to cover (I believe one of the Ed's alluded to this previously), so other than WIRTZ, not sure who at this stage, so it'll be interested to hear other people's thoughts on AM options.
FORWARDS
Although we scored the most goals in this season. just think how many it could have been with a confident striker!
NUNEZ - will be sold
JOTA - I'd sell him too as too injury prone
CHIESA - quality player, but his best position is on either flank, and he's not going to get ahead of what we have. Happy to keep, but I think we should cut him free
INCOMING: I like to see ALVAREZ and promote DANNS and DOAK
ISAK would be an excellent signing too, but touted price of £150m compared to ALVAREZ £82m, makes more sense to pursue ALVAEZ and maybe use NUNEZ in the deal. (although I suspect we'd have to pay a little over £100m)
If money's tight, then there are alternatives that have been mentioned, such as EKITIKE (£80m), GYOKERES (60m), SESKO (£75m) and maybe OSIMHEN (£65m) . All have potential, but unproven with the pace and quality of the PL, so maybe GYOKERES as 3rd option if we can't get ALVAREZ?
May take time to adjust, but from what I've seen, he's a strong, physical striker with an eye for goal and decent price.
DIAZ - I've been critical of him in the past, as he doesn't take the opposition on as much as he should, but over the last few games, he's shown what he's capable of and stepped up his output. So providing he can continue with that mindset and approach, then happy to keep him.
Just for BANTER. It WON'T HAPPEN. but BASED ON very CONSERVATIVE estimates, and due to Frimpong and Hato being relatively cheaper options, It's conceivable that we could sign FRIMPONG, HATO, WIRTZ and ALVAREZ for around £150m, plus player sales of KELLEHER, TSIMIKAS, QUANSAH, ELLIOT, NUNEZ, JOTA and potentially CHIESA.
It's not as crazy as it sounds - conceivable? Yes. Likely to happen? Not really! LOL. After all. silly season is nearly upon us - so take it as the bit of banter it was meant to be.
