Football News: What Do We Expect From A Rangers Striker?

What Do We Expect From A Rangers Striker?

What do we expect from a Rangers striker?

1. An abundance of goals?

2. High conversion to shot percentage?

3. Someone who can play the managers system or be adaptable to different managers?

Or should we be more realistic?

We all know Cyriel Dessers' limitations. Is our frustration with him justified? Is it his misses? becuase all strikers miss chances. He's had what is classed as 48 big chances missed over 2 seasons in the league.

But are we honestly expecting our main striker (though plenty have rated him as 3rd choice) to score:
2024/2025 - 39 goals (big chances missed added to his actual goals).

2023/2024 - 43 goals (big chances missed added to his actual goals).

Or is our frustration born out from the fact that Celtic look as if they will have another clean sweep domestically?

We cried out for a 20 goal a season striker. We got one and still never won the league.

We cried out for a 30 goal a season striker. We nearly got one and still never won the league.

We then decided we needed the league's top scorer. We got it and still never won the league.

We were told Colak was the natural striker we were missing. We still never won the league.

Plenty liked Morelos, the club's top European goal scorer. 1 title in 6 seasons as our talisman upfront.

Plenty said Roofe was our best striker - 1 title in 4
Defoe was one of the most clinical strikers to arrive at Rangers in a while - 1 title over 4 years (2 full seasons and 2 half seasons).

For the SPFL and their best season with Rangers:
Roofe - 29% conversion - 14 goals - 6 big chances missed.
Defoe - 25% conversion - 13 goals - 1 big chance missed.
Dessers - 22% conversion - 18 goals - 21 big chances missed.
Colak - 18% conversion - 14 goals - 10 big chances missed.
Morelos - 15% conversion - 18 goals - 12 big chances missed.

For reference:
Igamane - 13% conversion - 12 goals - 6 big chances missed.
Danilo - 11% conversion - 5 goals - 5 big chances missed.
Are we expecting too much? Or not enough? Are we getting value for money?

The rest of the top 5 in the SPFL this season.
Maeda - 14% conversion - 16 goals.
Murray - 28% conversion - 16 goals.
Dalby - 33% conversion - 15 goals.
Boyle - 24% conversion - 15 goals.

Is our issue that different managers have signed certain players, and these players are then expected to adapt? Or are we not playing them to their strengths?

We currently have 3 strikers who all like to play a different way from each other.
It's something that needs to be addressed by the new manager or we will, IMHO, continue to see the same failings from our frontmen.

If only we could clone Super Ally!
