Rangers v Celtic: Frustration, Fight, and Flickers of Hope

Well, here we go. In the Rangers v Celtic game, were our fears about the appointed referee and VAR team justified? I'd say yes. Trusty's challenge was a straight red all day long. As for Ralston, that's a second yellow and a clear denial of a goal scoring opportunity - he should have been off.

Aasgaard's tackle, while unlucky and unintentional, was still a red card in my view. And Maeda? He must've committed about twenty fouls before finally being booked - why did it take so long?

We struggled to get to grips with the game at times, but Chermiti should have scored twice (honourable mention to big Cyriel Dessers for his effort). Nico Raskin also had a big chance - not the best optics, but we were still very much in it.

At times, though, it felt like we were just putting out fires. Our decision making - whether to play it out or simply clear it into Row Z - let us down too often.

Danny Rohl's influence is already visible, and in my opinion, it will pay off. Still, this team needs surgery across several areas. Defensively, Cornelius earned a pass mark, but Djiga didn't convince me. As strange as it sounds, Soapy could do with someone like Grant Hanley beside him (I know how that sounds).

As for Tavernier, I'm not going there. He gave everything today, but he didn't even find himself at right-back until around the 100th minute.

Midfield

We've got the players; we just need to find the right balance. For me, it's Cameron, Raskin, and Diomande. Rothwell is a good player, or at least he was - I can't believe how far off form he's fallen. Barron's energy was badly needed today. Aasgaard wasn't involved enough and seemed too laid back again. Personally, I'd have started Bajrami.

Forwards

Chermiti - will he come good? The jury's still out. Miovski doesn't look fit or like the player he once was. Antman and Gassama both flatter to deceive, while Danilo's through ball today was top quality - a technically gifted player who just needs consistent minutes.

The Rest

Curtis looks likely to leave, which is a real shame. Rice's main issue, I think, is his physical stature. There are other youngsters waiting in the wings - but will we actually promote our own?

Moore, in my opinion, will be a player. And as I've said before, I'd rather see us develop our own talent. Meghoma is one I'd sign permanently alongside Cornelius. Djiga, though, can go back.

Looking Ahead:

Rohl has something about him that I really like. He's seen enough to understand what's required, and that second-half fight clearly came from him. But we still need to strengthen - and soon.

Change is coming, and as many have said; keep the faith.

"Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

Remember - it's always darkest before the dawn.
